As soon as I heard the track "Windmill" by the young (19!) composer and pianist, Zachary Bruno, I was  drawn to the  energy and structure of this wonderful composition. Zach was kind enough to allow me to do an "orchestral wrap"  of his original piano track. To me, his track seems to overflow with endless happiness, which I tried to capture with my additions. Damien Riba recently posted this jazz take on  Gershon Kingsley's 1969 tune, "Popcorn". Damien was gracious enough to allow me to add some additional instruments to his already wonderful track. I went for a "fim noir" style feel in my arrangement. I hope you enjoy it!

I was inspired to compose this track by a video of horses running. I tried to capture the energy, power and pure joy of these magnificent creatures as they ran and played, totally lost in the moment. I hope you enjoy the track :-)

His work in taking a number of my random phrases, adding just a couple stems of his own, and creating an entirely new track is impressive. This is a short track in memory of all those whose lives have been cut short due to domestic acts of violence and terrorism.

Elegy For The Fallen

This orchestral work was inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields", written by John McCrae in 1915. Part of his inspiration for this poem were due to the bright red poppies that grew over the graves of the soldiers at the funeral he was presiding over - a funeral for a friend who recently died in battle. 

The composition uses several motives based on the words in the first line of the poem, along with may others that appear in the poem: crosses, larks, guns, we are the dead, dawn, sunset and love. The text of the poem is as follows:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row, 
That mark our place, and in the sky, 
The larks, still bravely singing, fly, 
Scarce heard amid the guns below. 

We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, 
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields. 

Take up our quarrel with the foe! 
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high! 
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
