Music has always played an important part of my life.  From when I played a solo Christmas Song on the Organ for our Elementary School Christmas Show in First Grade up to playing in front of over 15,000 fans at the University of Iowa last year, I’ve always enjoyed entertaining.
Although I have enjoyed entertaining since I can remember, my path to where I am today has been interesting to say the least!  In the 1980’s after playing in a few cover bands, I decided to incorporate a few other like minded musicians and start a rock band doing mostly originals.  In the mid 1980’s it was easier to make a name for yourself than it is today.  Back then (thanks to MTV - when it truly was Music Television) the show was more important than the content.  My fellow bandmates and I worked feverishly on putting together a no holds barred, jump off the top of the PA stacks high energy show.  The summer of 1986 was a summer to remember, Cheap Trick was making a resurgence (thanks to MTV) and we were their opening act.  My goal was to learn as much as I could from them and to get signed by a major label.  Well as fate would have it…   near the end of the tour Rick Nielsen pulled me aside one day and said where do you want to be in 10 years?  I told him headlining a stadium tour.  Rick looked me straight in the eyes and (this is the part I’ll never forget and hopefully someday I will get the chance to thank him) Todd, you’re a good songwriter, however.. you still need some work.  So unless you can afford to struggle and learn for a few years, I’m afraid that in ten years you’ll probably be in the back of a smokey music store teaching guitar or piano to some kid who won’t listen to you anyways.  Enjoy this summer and what’s left of the tour and then get a real job…. you’ll be better off in the end.  At first I didn’t want to believe him, but the thought of ending up in some cramped dungy music store for the rest of my life was not very appealing.  
When that summer ended, I took his advice (although not everyone in my band did - more on that later) and decided to enter the corporate world.  Corporate life was good to me, I had a very successful journey which ended with me being able to take an early retirement in 2013.  
I found myself smack deep in the middle of corn field Iowa when retirement came, I started transforming my home into a recording studio and began the second version of my musical career!  That was almost 6 years ago…  I’m now full blown back into doing what I have always wanted to do.  Write music and entertain audiences!
In 2017 I started work on an album that was released in early 2018 and in the summer of 2018 I decided to book my own tour called the 2018 Campfires & Guitars tour.  I played 16 shows in 14 different venues to over 24,000 fans across Iowa and Wisconsin.  Now I’m back in the studio working on album #2 and starting on planning my 2019 tour!  I will admit getting noticed in the music industry today is completely different than the 1980’s.  But I’ll get there………

Critically acclaimed and award-nominated DFW singer-songwriter Jud Block heard the siren songs of Eric Taylor, Brent Best, Jason Molina, and the Scottish poetry of Stuart Adamson and Scott Hutchison, which afflicted him with a love of music at an early age; lacking any vestige of a Puritan work ethic, he learned to play bass and lurked around the Arlington/Fort Worth punk rock scene with a few bands (Elysian Fields/Death Rabbis) until it became clear that fashion had usurped the music's message, and he turned in his Doc Martens; around this time he bought his first acoustic guitar and learned five chords, which he later discovered was two chords too many, but he figured if he ever decided to go into prog rock, he’s covered; after leaving Texas, he didn't play in a band, or solo, again until the outskirts of the new millennium, when he took on bass duties for an all-original blues-rock band (Kenny's New Car) in Orlando, Florida; in 2001, he moved to Charlotte, NC, and formed Cattletruck terrorizing the staid mindset of the financial district for nearly 10 years and released two CDs, Bourbon and Black Crepe and Branches from the Hangin’ Tree, until that beast ran off the road and was left to become one with the Earth in some backwoods pasture; In 2009, he released his first solo CD, Empty Chamber Grace, a solo acoustic collection of dark, gallows humor-infused tales heavily influenced by Townes Van Zandt, Brent Best, Eric Taylor, Tom Russell, Charles Bukowski, and Larry Brown; and in 2012, he released his second CD, Barroom Gravity, which draws from the same influences as the first, but with a bit more flesh on the bones. In 2013, he returned to his home state of Texas armed only with an acoustic guitar and a stash of incisive lyrics; and in 2015, he recorded his third solo CD, Souvenir Reflection, which focused on loss, suicide, and the grieving process.
