Niki Sadeki is a self-taught, high-spirited creative, emboldened by the ideas, minds and sounds scattered in her midst. At the core of it all, a desire to connect people – be it through rhythm, events, or materializing projects. Whether DJ, radio host, event organizer, label collaborator, curator and producer, Niki moves along with spontaneity, and a get things done ethos. As a DJ, she’s gradually amplified a signature sound fluidly grounded in deep, progressive, up and downtempo ranges. What carries her sets has less to do with genre and more to do with isolating a mood, and building up different currents around it. Her love for selecting and spreading these moods has seen her found Deep House Vancouver, join the Quetame label ranks, host the Allure show on Frisky Radio, and produce sets for channels around the world, sprinkling the pages of United We Stream, trndmsk, Deep House London and Balance Series. Niki also curates Souq Record’s glistening annual compilation, Mirror for the Sun. From her days expressing herself on the guitar, raiding her parents’ records, and exploring the worlds of grunge, jazz or psychedelic rock, and traditional Persian music, she’s carried over the knack for complementing dark and light frequencies, gliding in between without shying away from diving in. Niki travels with a spring in her steps, leaving her mark at spaces like Fusion Festival, Kater Blau, Village Underground Londong, Shelter Amsterdam, Woomoon Ibiza and Storytellers Tulum, The Cityfox Experience, Do Not Sit on the Furniture, and regularly at Gorg-O-Mish in her native Vancouver, where mountains, ocean and city converge. Her down to earth and steady love for sound has shaped a willingness to always adapt to the situation at hand, making the best out of it on a musical and a human level.

Playing at Mezcal Amores was an absolute dream come true. ✨
In Mitla, one hour from Oaxaca - mountains all around, an agave field straight out of a painting, with Olivia Steele’s glowing art installations and messages scattered across the landscape like guiding stars. A lineup full of artists I deeply admire. A production that left zero wishes unfulfilled. And a crowd that felt like home.
Honestly, it was a “pinch me” moment from start to finish. I’m endlessly grateful to have been part of this year’s Oaxaca Experience.
Deborah - the biggest thank you to you and your entire team of dv experiences for bringing us all together in such a magical way and making this weekend truly unforgettable.

I will remember this forever.
I can’t stop smiling.

Sharing the decks with an artist you deeply admire and call a friend brings a wild mix of excitement, nerves, and the kind of energy that pushes you to your limits — and sometimes beyond.
The idea first came up after my birthday last year. We kept dreaming and talking about it… and it finally came together in a 3-hour journey I can only describe as a true musical love affair.
We didn’t plan anything, just flowed into it naturally and at some point, it turned into a full-on jam.
It was one of those moments that felt like pure magic.

✔️ What is your musical background?

My first important contact with electronic music came with my dear friend Dennis (Ganji) who carried niche Downtempo genres into my Munich suburban bourgeoisie environment when I was a teenager.

However, the main influence for my DJ project were - believe it or not - intense sonic confrontations with Full-On Psytrance in 2022. Luckily, once I had my first controller Downtempo and Tech genres took over my library published by labels like down., Talpa Rec. and Crépite and produced/mixed by artists such as Riyoon, Frida Darko, Reyneke, Temple Tears, Antaares, Matildoutz, LENI and - of course - Ganji.

 

✔️ In your opinion, what makes a good afterhour?

Self-confident but mellow and conscious people. No phones, a deep gripping yet suave sound. Eye contact that gets replied with a smile, a caring question or a friendly chat.

 

✔️ How did you feel about the gig?

When Benja from Kompáz asked me to open the event, I did not know what to expect and started planning from creative scratch. Though not many people arrived this early at the Salon floor and  personally I was very troubled beforehand, the time behind the decks was my perfect start for a deeply touching and wholesome weekend.
