"Flora Urbana" is an exploration of the anthropogenic environments in which we live. With the intention to dissolve the illusory barriers between humans and nature, Green-House utilized field recordings of small pockets of "natural" sounds as they walked through densely populated city parks. The field recordings are blended with software synthesizers, samplers, and virtual instruments to symbolize the potential harmony that can be achieved between us and the rest of the ecosystem.

Green-House is the project of Los Angeles based artist Olive Ardizoni.
Approaching their music with an intentional naivety, they craft songs that find freedom through simplicity. As a non-binary artist, they hope to create a space with fewer barriers as both a performer and a listener. Green-House's latest full-length album "Music For Living Spaces" was released in May of this year. The record is an extension of their desire to encourage people to connect with their existing surroundings.

Metro Art teamed up with Leaving Records to ask four LA based musicians who draw inspiration from the landscape to create original music soundscapes evoking experiences of nature and transportation in Los Angeles with historic Union Station at its center.

In keeping with their long standing partnership, Panda Bear and Sonic Boom (aka Noah Lennox and Pete Kemper) have teamed up again to create Reset, a collection of songs that started with Sonic Boom sending song length two track samples pulled from his vinyl collection to Panda Bear to write to. The result is an album that sounds like Summer with lyrical themes of hope and the need for common ground. Noah and Pete caught up with Geoff Stanfield from their homes in Portugal to discuss. Enjoy!

Episode 72: Panda Bear and Sonic Boom

Patrick Nickleson is the author of The Names of Minimalism: Authorship, Art, Music, and Historiography in Dispute, an academic study that radically reconsiders the origins and boundaries of musical minimalism. Uninterested in searching for the earliest work of musical minimalism, or even in doing the admittedly necessary work of expanding the canon to include lesser known but equally important figures, Nickleson instead underscores a different set of shared traits that he sees in (early) minimalism: the importance of collective authorship, often collaborating in a form of “bandness”; the priority of recording to tape over written scores; and distinguishing between “(early) minimalism” and the later canonization of Minimalism as we know it since the early 1980s. In addition to the book, we discuss searching for obscure records online, our shared love of Constellation Records, and the influence of Tony Conrad.
