Listen to an exclusive “Solo Piano Edit” of 'Them' by Nils Frahm, taken from his approaching Late Night Tales album. The original version appears on his score of the film 'Victoria'.

Classically trained pianist and composer Carlos Cipa returns with Sculptures, a piano-solo mini-album, right in time for some calm and quiet winter days.
Most of 2017, Carlos has been working on his next full-length album, a colourful record combining piano and other key instruments with a variety of orchestral instruments and electronically processed soundscapes, which will see the light of day in 2018. In between writing scores for musicians and long recording sessions, he often found himself sitting on his upright piano late at night, messing around with simple melodies or patterns as a distraction.
Recorded in his very own Beatschuppen Studio over a couple of days in November, Sculptures brings a few of these raw, intimate song fractures to life and places them alongside three brand mark pieces of Carlos Cipa’s second album, re-recorded on his peculiar Upright piano for the first time.

“Sallaw” is a Kurdish word that expresses the passing of time, and on this new album the three sound artists have found a way of expressing that notion in music. Four tracks of slowly unfolding ambience make up this collection, each piece named after different months, again in Kurdish. The four sections represent the different seasons and their movement through time.

The simplicity of these pieces and the honesty I feel in the music communicated a sense of ease and exploration that I immediately connected with.
