TAIPAN TRAX PRESENTS: TT001
Taipan Trax is proud to finally present the first physical release of the label: TT001.
Founded in 2021 by Leeds-based producer Phasmid, Taipan Trax has always sought
to get up and comers heard, championing dark, impactful productions with an
unsettling edge from across the world. As the label hits 50 tracks released to date,
TT001 is a timely showcase of the distinct, bass-led sound of Taipan, with label
regulars and new artists alike drawing upon multiple genres to form this
long-awaited four track VA.
Opening the A side is Australian producer DJ Sunroof. Having previously graced
imprints such as Break ‘N’ Pieces, Extra Spicy, and Finespun Recordings with his
unmistakable sound, his contribution to the release - ‘No Style’ - is a masterful
fusion of UKG and breaks, exploring ethereal pads and eerie vocal work to thick,
warped basslines.
A2 comes courtesy of label founder Phasmid, continuing his steady supply of
no-nonsense breaks-focussed club tracks. ‘Double Negative’ sees abrupt vocal
chops and textured drum patterns collide to create a driving breakbeat number that
begins with stripped-back bass weight, before opening out into a more spacious and
darkly melodic second half.
Kicking off the B side with brute force is Bristol-based K-65. Having garnered a
fierce reputation for his razor sharp electro-breaks, K-65 has pulled out all the stops
with ‘Kingpin’. Wielding piercing industrial bass and slick percussion, this track
makes its mark early doors, moving swiftly into a blistering 4x4 second drop.
The finale of TT001 comes from the notorious Oldboy. Needing little introduction,
Oldboy’s productions have made a major imprint upon the scene in recent years.
Whilst usually dealing in dark and deadly 2 step and 140, Oldboy steps up the tempo
here with ‘Scrap’ which, as the title suggests, is a gritty foray into the realm of
jungle/dnb - with signature Taipan bass.
TT001 will be available to order physically and digitally from the Taipan Trax
Bandcamp from July 14th. Preorders up June 9th.

"Moving to Dublin from Philadelphia five years ago marked thebeginning of the Julia Louise Knifefist project; a character with its essence in blending experimental forms of noise, gabber and breakcore with dance music elements and a memorable stage presence.

With its transatlantic roots in the DIY culture of both Philadelphia and Dublin, Julia takes inspiration from harsh noise and extreme performances – like that of Death Grips who he counts as an influence – taking the very visceral elements of extreme music and making them more digestible. 

As the co-head of collective Bitten Twice, Julia has provided an important outlet for experimental electronics in Ireland, collaborating regularly with the strong community of artists that are currently blooming in Dublin, such as Rory Sweeney and E The Artist, all of whom perform together regularly. 


Julia’s forthcoming release – Valley – begins with the glitchy jungle and breakcore of ‘Venom’; Julia blends punk and hardcore aesthetics with threatening basslines and breakbeat, pushing the DIY sound of contemporaries such as JPEGMafia and Paris Texas to its absolute limits.

Both ‘Black Magic’ and ‘What Then’ have a strong focus on experimental gabber – moments of nightmarish melody lie between unapologetic, in-your-face kicks that threaten to burst into flames, before the fuck-trance dreamscape of ‘Hands To Heal’ guides the listener over the clouds and into Julia’s own world, mixing cloud-rap influences with the future-facing aesthetics of artists like Yung Lean and Vargt2m to create something instantly distinctive as his own."
