I love it🖤 Im trying to make this music like this now✌️

This was done around 1980, with me on keyboard, and adding a few backing vocals. It was recorded at Cargo Studios, Rochdale, where the band The Fall also recorded their tunes. Alas, it's a copy of a copy of a copy of a cassette tape, and the tape itself has deteriorated, so you are not hearing this tune in it's full glory--if we had been a Manchester band instead of a band from Crewe I think we might have got somewhere, but it wasn't to be.

Oh man, Steve!! This reminds me of “Boy” from U2’s inintial release in same year!! And has a pre  Duran Duran feel and even the riff to Hungry Like The Wolf!! Impressed!!!🙏🙏🙏

Check out Doppelgänger, bu Daniel Amos, circa ‘82... just found album on YouTube!!... a huge inspiration for me!! Think you will enjoy it, Steve( it is a Christian band... but not like one might expect!!)🙏🙏

The band was called TALKING ABOUT LIFE, Mark Harrington was doing lead vocals at first, me on keyboards; eventually we shared lead vocals; if we had been based in Manchester rather than a nothing town like Crewe, it would have been a different story, we might well have broken through, instead, the band disintegrated, although Mark, myself and Steve Lomas continued to do stuff together. Steve wanted me in a later band of his called Sensibility, because he wanted to bring in more variation, but the lead in the band didn't--that band didn't last long either--a pity, it had real potential, but stuck the same style, which wasn't at all good for Steve, a brilliant guitarist playing in a limited style that, in truth, wasn't him, was beneath him, tantamount to putting handcuffs on him. Tragic that Steve died at such a young age, and I was told Mark committed suicide, but I still haven't been able to confirm that--I continue to pray the information was wrong, but have a feeling it was true.

ANYONE THAT GETS TO HEAR ENOUGH OF MY TUNES WILL DISCOVER I CAN BACK THAT CLAIM UP.

I DON'T THINK MY TUNES QUITE MATCH HIS, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY COULDN'T GET CLOSE IF GIVEN THE STUDIO TREATMENT, AND IF I HAD ACCESS TO SOME OF THE GREATEST MUSICIANS AND ENGINEERS, AS HE HAS.

I DON'T HAVE HIS CHARISMA, AND I'M CERTAINLY NOT AS ACCOMPLISHED ON INSTRUMENTS AS HE IS, BUT I THINK MY APPROACH TO CREATING TUNES IS POSSIBLY MORE ECLECTIC THAN, AND, ALTHOUGH I THINK HIS LYRICS ARE INGENIOUS, I THINK I HAVE THE EDGE ON HIM BECAUSE THEY HAVE MEANING, AND MAKE MORE SENSE THAN MOST OF HIS, WHICH ARE MORE ABOUT A PLAY ON WORDS THAN MAKING SOCIAL COMMENTS!

Thing with many of these tunes is, the vocals get more intriguing as tune progresses, so they have to be heard from beginning to end :)
