Mega City Industry is Ital Tek’s sophomore effort for Civil Music. Formed of four liquid hybrids exploring Footwork's accelerated template the EP splices the rhythmic memes of Chicago with UK sci-fi sonics rooted in classic '90s AI and jungle music.

With three albums for Planet Mu to his name and an uncanny knack of always sounding completely unique Ital Tek has been evolving his dexterous dance-floor electronica, techy IDM, glitch-hop and post-dubstep forms for approaching a decade. Impressively adept at shrugging off the constraints of genre identification his output has most recently been inspired by the febrility and tension/release of Chicago Footwork rhythms. In addition to releasing on his own Atom River imprint Myson is now a regular contributor to Civil Music and his 2013 debut for the label 'Hyper Real' further revealed his stylistic slipperiness. Morphing the rhythmic geometry around footwork’s 160BPM tempo the release's highly melodic, nimble dance-floor sophistication was equal parts cerebral and hedonistic.

'Mega City Industry' continues where he left off and for an artist that has never put a foot wrong, with a catalogue which must be the envy of the vast majority of electronic musicians, it is with some gravitas we suggest that Mega City Industry is his most engaging work to date. Blending widescreen space and chimeric panorama with iron-fist industrial rhythms and cosmic dread Myson draws subtle, sinuous electronic connections between complex rhythm structures, sleek synth contours, frozen ambience and the darkside rush of growling bass. Rendered with breathtaking sound design the production is almost unfathomable - crisp and airy whilst pneumatic and heavy. Brimming in sensation, tempered skill and emotional mastery Mega City Industry is a sophisticated and expertly reduced EP.

I had just returned from a two-week trip back home to Canada for the first time in two years, so on my return back to Portland I was ready to make some music. And to be surrounded by so many amazing musicians who I admire and respect was a dream come true. 

Inspiration was in the air.
 
We started with the late Josiah Akoya's elven flute magic (Rest in Peace brother.). After that magic was recorded, the bass and synth lines came very naturally. One by one, the 3 female vocalists entered the booth, each performing 3 unique, and completely improvised vocal tracks. It ended up that three women sang vocals and three men played the instrumental parts, reflecting the two triangles in the sky, in harmony and balance.

It was a unique moment where I could see and feel that the harmony of the spheres was mirroring the musical alignment in the studio. 

And boom.

Emanation was born. 

The name of this track speaks to the source of all matter and life that endlessly streams music, truth, beauty and wisdom from the center of every particle in the Universe, all the time.

This is my contribution to the InTerraTree compilation, which also features work by Icaro, Numatik, Futexture, Biomigrant, bioLuMigen, Mumukshu, Soulacybin, eelko, Somatoast, Spundose, Floating Thought, SMNCHNT, and Subaqueous.

This short but sweet track is inspired by tribal drumming and includes recordings of myself and my friends (thank you Jason Sanders, Matt Murtha, Kaylyn, Jason Burruss, Sean McCutcheon) playing drums in various places across the US, as well as a few samples of some genuine African tribal drumming. The title is derived from the notion of merging cultures and places and times through music, and also from the fact that the recordings happened to occur at very significant moments of transition in my life.

100% of the proceeds of this album go towards InTerraTree; an ecovillage project in Togo, West Africa modeling autonomy through regenerative land stewardship, locally-owned social enterprise, and transcultural exchange.

Reso — the alias of London-based producer Alex Melia — returned to the dance music world in late 2017 with the inaugural release of his new RX0 label, Kodama, a four-track EP of spirited dance music. For the second release on the label, Reso has chosen two productions that act as a counterpoint of sorts to the first EP. Where RX001 was a broad mission statement, RX002 is a laser-focused burst of breaks, moods, and programming finesse.

‘Avenoir’ is a dedication to Reso’s roots, a tip of the hat from the man today to his younger self. This is most evident in the way breaks are chopped, layered, and sequenced to feed tension and tease expectation. A student of the artform, Reso also tips his hat to early pioneers like Dillinja, Paradox, and Goldie. Rubbing against the youthful exuberance of this rhythmic ride is the older Reso, a man with a better understanding of melodic progression, chord sequences, and song structure. The result is what Melia refers to as “prog jungle” with guitars, pads, and ambient melodies easing the breaks in and evolving throughout, guiding the listener towards memories that haven’t happened yet — an idea implied by the track’s name, a noun invented by John Koenig and meant to represent, “the desire that memory could flow backward.”

On the flip side of this prog jungle escapade is ‘Chibaku Tensei’ (Japanese for planetary devastation), another expansive production that riffs on darker shades of the same ideas: intense drum manipulations, with breaks cut sharp and twisted to breaking point, mood-setting ambient pads for short bursts of respite, and tense but necessary forward motion.

Both tracks were cut to 45rpm on vinyl for maximum dancefloor impact while the digital release includes a bonus track, ‘Aural Animation’, a tongue-in-cheek roller that indulges musical fantasies, the ideal soundtrack to a car ride into space.

RX002 affirms Reso’s return and dedication to finding new directions without forgetting the paths that brought him there.

Here is a beautiful new tune which came into being quite spontaneously like a flash of noetic lightning in the wake of some beautifully serene experiences in Seattle and the Cascade mountains.

It was a lot of fun and a real honor to feature vocal contributions from my friends Theo and Amma (Entheo - https://soundcloud.com/entheo), as well as Theo's guitar and a few percussive samples from my friend Jules O'Keefe.

I haven't given out a new free track in a while, and I think this is a breakthrough and a new direction for me, so I am going out on a limb and allowing this tune to spread how it may, in good faith that it will touch as many lives as possible.
