Sure, Jeremy Davenport is "easy on the eyes," as Cosmo magazine points out, but it s his vibrant trumpet and classic crooning that won over the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Paul McCartney, Sting, and Harry Connick, Jr. Pairing up with fellow prominent New Orleanians Basin Street Records, Davenport is set to win even more hearts of fans with his fourth release, We'll Dance 'Til Dawn.

Jeremy Davenport is no stranger to the jazz world. Raised in St. Louis by a music educator mother, and trombonist father, who performs in the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra, his love of the music and performing arts were in his blood. So much so that in the eighth grade his father arranged an auspicious introduction to trumpet idol Wynton Marsalis that would change his life forever. A merit scholar at the prestigious Manhattan School of music, Davenport began private study with Raymond Mase and Wynton Marsalis. He went on to study at the University of New Orleans with the patriarch of the Marsalis family, music educator and jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis.

Davenport was honored to become the youngest performer on four world tours with Harry Connick Jr.'s Big Band, after being introduced to Connick by Ellis. Coming off tour in 1989, he finally settled in New Orleans, and has been a well-respected member of the New Orleans family ever since, including being inducted into the New Orleans Jazz Hall of Fame in 2000.

HIStory
Take a blues lit, story-ville tour of "The History of American Jazz", a nostalgic and reminiscent concert performance that was developed, arranged, and conducted by heart and soul jazz musician, Bill Fallon (1925-1986), native son of Westborough, a small New England jazzy-apple orchard town, located 34 miles west of Boston, MA.

In October 1959, Bill and his locally popular jazz sextet - a rich, colorful blend of percussion, key, string and brass - performed a wealth of blues-jazz standards and melodies to a large audience in the small town of Hudson, located just outside of Framingham, MA, in collaboration with the local Chi-Rho Society.

CONCERT MISSION
The purpose of this performance was not only to entertain an eager audience and inspire youth, but to pay tribute to the notable African-American musicians and song writers who gave birth to the music genre of Jazz, as well as those who kept it alive and ever evolving across the generations.

New jazz hybrids appeared on the scene when fused with multiethnic music that widened the genre's wingspan and migration throughout the nation. It rode the rails and river steamboats, branching out from its U.S. birthplace in New Orleans, on up the Mississippi River, out to Kansas City, Chicago, Memphis, New York City and beyond.

LOST TREASURE FOUND
The reel-to-reel recording of "The History of American Jazz" concert was discovered in the late 1990's in the attic of the Chapman family Westborough home. We will be forever grateful to "Chappy" who recorded and preserved this concert performance, a long lost Fallon family treasure that had been lying in wait for its rediscovery.

This jewel of music was faithfully restored and partitioned into 22 tracks by friend and sound engineer, Doug Benroth (Audio Visual 7), who made it possible for us to share this enjoyable volume of music with all of you in WAV audio file format.

HISTORY OF AMERICAN JAZZ: AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL
It was Bill Fallon's wish that music teachers and their students, composers, arrangers, musicians and jazz enthusiasts alike find this historical volume of music entertaining as well as educational.

This volume of music is rich in its exploration of the many elements of the art form and stuff of life that go into quality music making. It is in this endeavor that we, the Fallon family, help make Bill's dream come true.

The Night We Met

I'm playing my old National archtop in open E for bottleneck slide, piano, and singing on this 8 bar blues standard. It's in A if you want to join in. (A A7 D F A F#7 B7 E7 -- walk down, A7 G7 F#7 F E -- E7)

I recorded both the vocals and the guitar with a Shure Beta58 mic, then ran it through some fx to get that tube thing happening. No edits, just three raw tracks, and a basic shuffle drum loop. Quick n' dirty, but I prefer my blues raw.

Trouble in Mind is credited to Richard M. Jones. Jones grew up in New Orleans and played piano in the red light district with Joe "King" Oliver among others. In the twenties he moved to Chicago where he wrote songs and got involved in the nascent recording industry. He was the Chicago supervisor for Race Records, then worked for Decca, and finally with Mercury Records until his death in 1945. Although Jones wrote it, Trouble in Mind has morphed into a folk song, at least here in the middle of America. I first learned to play it from <a href="http://www.tadrobinson.com/">Tad Robinson</a> quite a number of years ago, and since then my version has diverged quite a bit from that as I countryfied it to my liking. Here's the original <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nOGTQND_ec">1926 Okeh recording</a> that features none less than Louis Armstrong on cornet and Bertha "Chippie" Hill doing the vocals.
