Guitarist from Manchester. Been playing for most of my life and have been writing my own music for a few years now but never really done anything with it. It’s just a hobby for me really but anything I put on here will be my own stuff. I can play a bit of bass and I wouldn’t consider myself a singer but I’m trying to develop some confidence in that area. Love a bit of blues guitar, especially Clapton and Bonamassa, inspired by bands like Free, Bad Company, Whitesnake, Metallica, Guns n Roses, Aerosmith and a whole variety of other bands. I’m a sucker for a great vocal and so my musical taste covers a whole host of music, not just rock. Really interested to get peoples take on my music and see what feedback I get but also looking forward to hearing what great, original music is out there too!

Conceived and formed before most of you were born, indie/electronic rockers re-invented for your pleasure.

Beginnings

In February 1962 the “Belaires” started out being known by the bands original name “The Outsiders”. The founder members of the band were Noel Browne (lead) Ian Strachan (drums and band leader), Lawrence James (rhythm) and Butch Bennett Bass. In the first few months of the bands existence Ronnie Pienaar and Bonny Bennett shared vocals. However, the band at the time played mainly instrumentals at basing themselves on the Shadows. 

In the very early days of the bands existence Noel Browne played lead on a home made electric guitar which he made himself. He, as was Lawrence James and Butch Bennett very pleased with themselves when they were able to go out and purchase from “Radio Limited” their brand new Fenders. – Lead, Fender Stratocaster, Rhythm, Fender Esquire and a Fender Precision Bass. 

Ian Strachan had to wait a little longer before being able to replace his old second hand Premier drum set with a brand new (Champaign in colour) Gretsch drum set with Zylgin cymbals, Ian, at the time was very proud to be the owner of such a fine drum set.

In June 1962, Angus Kennedy, Joined the band as vocalist. Having done a brief stint earlier that year during his Air Force military service in Gwelo where he sung with the initial Mike Clark band known as “The Spectors”.

Bands Name Change

Early in 1963 the Band changed its name from the “Outsiders” to the “Belaires” after making an agreement with the manufacturers of “Belaire” shirts for the promotion of their shirts at the bands numerous rock sessions. 

From this time on the Belaires really took off playing at private parties, weddings, rock sessions, hotel, night/social clubs, cinema, radio and TV engagements..

There were many places and venues to name that the Belaires played at, some being Salisbury, Umtali, Que Que, Gatooma, and Gwelo civic halls. Bulawayo – Jewish Guild Hall.

growing up with the great musical influences of the '60s and 70's, and not taking myself to seriously I like to just call my music Beatle country blues. Stepped away from playing for almost 25 years while I raised a family, but was drawn back by learning about home recording, using the Boss BR 900 on my first songs. Highly recommend the Boss to start. Moved to studio one pro, which will give you endless ideas once you get comfortable. Lots to learn. Love the creative process of writing music with structure and lyrics that I think fit the mood. Not trying to impress, just send a musical message to who ever wants to listen. I can also be heard on
