Cutting edge techno at it’s finest, Parisian heavyweight Bambounou takes us through the paces with a mind-warping mix for the Junction 2 series.
 
Fusing his love for dystopian sci-fi with futuristic interpretations of UK techno, IDM and tribal sources, Bambounou is an artist at the forefront of today’s underground scene. Catching the attention of Modeselektor early, the French-Malian-Polish producer has released two albums and five EPs on the now-defunct seminal label, 50Weapons, and is set to launch his own imprint, Bambe, this month. Lauded for his experimental eclecticism and dynamic sets, Bambounou is a regular at dance institutions like Breghain, Concrete and De School and will be making his long-awaited debut with us at ION Festival this September.

"Filling in last minute for Valentino Mora was my biggest surprise at Selectors this year. I spent Saturday midday in my apartment in Tisno prepping for the set, I had to create a story picking up from Rabih Beaini's extraordinary and deep set – to 'Mr. Party' Identified Patient. I'm happy and proud with the story that I created, slowly pumping up the crowd more and more, getting deeper into the night. It all came together in the end, 3 hours long."

Planet Euphorique is the name of @d-tiffany’s label, but also a perfect summation of her sound: musically she reworks rave, euphoria, trance, electro, breakbeat and techno into all out emotional onslaughts that get hands in the air and chests swelling with joy. The Canadian - who also runs the xpq? label - has always got things done on her own terms, from running parties in her own house in Vancouver to making dance music with the gear she had previously used as part of a band via setting up her own women-focused Intersessions DJ school.

This week she treats us to an extra special two hour selection that will take you to the heart of a rave in your front room. It’s a mix that bristles with life, from dusty and teary-eyed breakbeats that are shrouded in nostalgia to more clipped and kicking techno. The mixing is tight and urgent and after initially serving up plenty of lush moments of melody and IDM introspection, it grows all the more direct and unhinged later on.

Since launching in 2016, Junction 2 has grown into a globally recognised event with an underground cult following. Deeply rooted in club culture and ultra-consistent across operations, production, music policy and vibe, the festival puts the audience journey at the heart of the experience. 

Made up of a variety of bespoke and creative spaces, the London festival has steadily scaled from one day to two, from 10,000 to 25,000 like-minded guests, elevating the scope of UK electronic music festivals to rival those of our European counterparts. No short sets or plastic tents, Junction 2 merges natural beauty, green fields, rambling rivers, woodland pathways and hidden enclaves with impeccable sound, high end production and a meticulous attention to detail. The ethos behind the scenes is as progressive as the booking policy, with a focus on improving sustainability, gender parity, welfare provisions and with active anti-discrimination policies in place. 

Despite the postponement of the 2020 edition, recent months has seen Junction 2 bring the spirit of Boston Manor Park into the digital space as the UK’s first large scale underground virtual festival. Uniting party goers from around the world at a time when we couldn’t freely experience dancefloors, the event was broadcast in over 150 countries. A second edition of the virtual festival came in January 2021 with Junction 2: Connections. Featuring 20 artists and filmed across 3 iconic musical cities (Detroit, Berlin and London), the global electronic music community was brought together again inside Junction 2’s custom built space, J2v. A truly unique, one-off experience, the digital festival was watched by over 3.1million viewers.

Junction 2’s vision is focused on elevating original and pioneering artists whilst providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for future generations to blossom.
