Hailing from Raleigh, NC; BrassiousMonk, the self-proclaimed, “Keepah of the Flame”, is a skilled producer, rapper, and songwriter. Monk’s family originated on both coasts; his mother from Brooklyn, NY, and father from LA. Before the age of 6 he’d already lived in both California, New York, Spain, and finally settling in North Carolina. Due to this fortunate culture-shock, his music and style influences were broadened at a young age. Mama was on Anita Baker, Sade, and Shirley Caesar; big sweaters and nikes. While Papa was Pac, stand up comedy tapes, and Funkadelic; leather and chucks. All that makes for quite the gumbo pot. The blend of musical/artistic tastes only became more evident as time passed; easily going from reciting Mos Def verses to blasting No Doubt; throwing up the Wu, to bumping Kirk Franklin. All these influences, while also growing up in and through the early 00s to the changing of the guard that is the late 00s, mixed wonderfully together to form the “monk with more funk for ya trunk” himself. One thing that is/was present in all of his influences/influencers even today are: originality, spirit, and an introspective wittiness; things he now holds himself to provide through each extension of his art. Think if Pharrell, Mos Def, and Flying Lotus had a kid, then let Dave Chappelle raise him. you’d get Brass.

The Franklin County crooner is constantly captivating crowds and moving people to reach for their phones to bear witness, as he offers listeners what he calls "music you can feel." Exuding a smoky, impassioned sound reminiscent of classic soul-soothers like Johnnie Taylor and Marvin Gaye and contemporary neo-soul giants like Bilal and D’Angelo, the Souly Ghost has amassed a following from NC to LA to the United Kingdom as a singer who possesses the right amount of vocal "soul power" and stage presence to "move the crowd" when and wherever he performs.

He is well known in the North Carolina artist community, having established himself for many years as a crowd-pleaser on the open mic circuit as well as a highly requested background vocalist. He has performed as a vocal accompaniment to such prime acts as The TON3S fka The Hamiltones, R'mone Entonio, Niito, Aseelah Battles, Phoenix Lei, Tish Songbird & The Applauze, as well as several other NC Artists.

His recorded collaborations include projects with kidmarshall, Pharoahe Monch, Prince Po (Organized Konfusion), Wildchild (LootPack), Conway The Machine, 38 Spesh, Che Noir, Statik Selektah, Amber Navran, Guilty Simpson, NIRO, OC from NC, Nacynze, Willie Walker, Oswin Benjamin, Shambo Medina, The 54 Poets and with producers Doc Junya, Madlib, Theory Hazit, Aaron Green, JeMarcus Bridges and Nottz.

The Souly Ghost’s highly anticipated debut album is set to release under Madlib Invazion Records.
