Fanontale is an AU that takes inspiration from Undertale fanon perceptions by using it to influence the roles the beloved characters take, as well as manifesting in-universe, affecting the characters and their stories.
This is not an Undertale AU about "What if Undertale fanon was good", but rather one that seeks to answer the question of "what if fanon perceptions had direct consequences for the lives these characters live?"

Papyrus takes Sans’ role. He’s the leader (and creator) of the Flowey Fan Club, being Flowey’s most devout supporter! And he’ll support Chara just as fervently, always encouraging them to do their best, and to get their life on the path of redemption. Sure, everyone else thinks he’s an idiot for even trying to talk down the literal Embodiment of Evil, but if you think that’s discouraged him, then you clearly underestimate the true power of the Popular and Prestigious Papyrus!

Kris manages to find Queen Toriel's SOUL and pulls it out of the darkness into... well, still the darkness, but the much more shallow end of it, allowing Toriel to regain some strength as she's not completely subdued by the darkness.

Toriel provides Kris with various health bullets, and with her being fully conscious and capable, she's also able to help distract, weaken and (somewhat strangely) stabilize Dr. Gaster enough to finally get him to snap out of things. It still takes quite a lot of work, but eventually they succeed, and the Doctor admits his defeat.

===== NOTES =====
The three learn rather quickly what ended up happening to the poor monsters who succumbed to the CORE's meltdown. Dr. Gaster's research notes reveal something about the differences between human SOULs and monster SOULs. While they both have their own versions of it, their forms of Determination are vastly different. For Monsters, this essence is known as Willpower, whereas Determination was later coined by Dr. Gaster as a means distinguishing the two types.

And what he'd also come to learn at the very last minute, though he never was able to finish his thoughts... Determination and Willpower do not mix well at all, it seems. 

This would eventually result in monsters who would literally fall apart. Not quite to the same extent as turning to dust, however. Unsettling, barely-living pieces of Monsters, running on equal parts Determination and Willpower.

The monsters whose remnants can be encountered are Knight Knight, Madjick, the CORE Mercenary silhouette known here simply as CORE Supervisor, Terry, Vulkin's Dad and a group of Temmies. All of these people had some business at the CORE at the time of the meltdown, aside from the Temmies, who simply seemed to be there as emotional support for Vulkin's Dad.

===== NOTES =====
This came first place in the most recent music poll! Some of you may remember the "Gramma Rulz" themes I did for Yule Toad a few months ago, this song was made with that AU in mind.

Kris originally breaks off from the group and joins Gramma Rulz in her reckless, chaotic behavior as a means of distancing themself from the oppression of That Heart, tired of being forced into decisions, wanting to feel like they have some sort of control over their own life.

Eventually, Kris and Gramma Rulz reconvenes with Susie and her companion, and the four of them continue on to the dank-looking library. It's there where the Spam Filters capture the Lightners and force them into their own little rooms, locking them in from the outside.

Kris' bicycle, which has become its very own darkner in the form of a motorcycle, manages to bust Kris out. As they try to figure out how to get the others out of their "cells", Gramma Rulz shows up once more, glad to see Kris is okay. It doesn't take her very long to completely breeze past the fact that they were all just captured for her to suggest that they cause some more havoc.

At this point, Kris snaps. They're tired of all the overbearing elements in their life. Their mother. That Heart. And now the one person they thought would be able to respect their boundaries most of all is here trying to take control, trying to do only what she cares about, not what they want to do... 

So they lash out.
