doing that thing again where I review old recordings and find I like them a lot more than when they were recorded. this one is a song very close to my heart, and a favorite to sing. 

my voice has changed now due to T, but this was recorded sometime last fall.

Running never got me far enough
Distance is surmountable but it’s painful growing up
Never found the keys to keep me sane
It’s lovely out in Oregon but I wish I could feel brave
I wish that I could set a course to never be the same
As I once was, so afraid

Running left me breathless, left me scarred
I tried to mend the pieces but I was broken from the start
Now I’m cold and wet and broke without a bed
I don’t know how I’ve made it through but I did just like you said
And the smell of gasoline haunts the air in all my dreams
Like the ones where you stand by me

I’d crawl on my hands and knees if I knew where I’d find peace
I could a plane out east and get swallowed by the sea
If I knew I’d rest easy
