Today, the online music portal of Mixmag magazine published an article commemorating some of the women who have shaped and contributed to the progression of electronic music. Taking into account the state of the underground and contemporary clubbing landscape we know today, amongst the various vanguards like Donna Summer and Heather Heart were Metalheadz co-founder and the second to none selector, DJ Storm. Renowned for her a pivotal part in the formation of a subculture fuelled by warehouse raves and momentous soundsystems and her close connoisseurs and fellow Metalheadz operators, Goldie and the late DJ Kemistry, the superbly progressive strain of drum & bass and the unadulterated territories that came with that time were critical in the ever evolving electronic movement. Even now, her role in the scene today is as imperative as ever, representing a label and a sound that’s still flourishing some 25 years later. 

A week on Friday Storm will once again link with her Metalheadz crew as the label takes hold of our Room One to toast the launch of label signee Mikal's debut album. To give us a snippet of what's in store the DJ aptly dubbed ‘the first lady of drum & bass’ has graciously taken the time to pull together another of her excercises in first class selections in this brand new and exclusive promo mix.

Madrid-native De la Swing has announced the release of his forthcoming EP titled ‘Connected’. The 4-track collection will be available from the 27th February on Vinyl and the 3rd March digitally via Material 119. 

Spilt into two parts, the forthcoming EP includes two original productions and two remixes. The project opens with the titled track ‘Connected’ - a hefty-low end driven beat that rumbles throughout underpinning crashing high-hats. Whilst the remix from fellow elrow and also Paradise resident Robert James takes the track deeper, focusing on the thudding bassline and looping vocal samples. 

The second part is ‘Bambooda’ featuring fast-paced percussive beats, echoing vocals and electrifying sounds - creating the perfect peak-time groove. Nathan Barato’s rework adds a jacking rhythm, building up in waves for a series of dramatic drops. 

The ‘Connected’ EP is a true representation of De la Swing’s fun, infectious sound that he portrays throughout his DJ sets. Playing an integral part in the elrow world as a resident and label manager, the Madrid producer has been taking his sound all over the world as the brand continues to go from strength-to-strength.

It'd been a while, and when a gap opened up in the promomix schedule, Arnicvs decided to jump right in. Listening to past promomixes kept sparking that itch he couldn't scratch. Playing a weekly show is one thing, curating a mix something else entirely.

Arnicvs turned on his turntables and trusty - but these days slightly crackly - 17-year old Pioneer mixer and went to work. Desillusion set in pretty quickly. Only 80 minutes, and just too many great tunes to choose from. He wanted to make an effort of showcasing more recent acquisitions. It was tough.

However, hours of selecting and a couple of takes along, he is proud to present the result and hopes you will not be disappointed. Some ambient, some ethereal soundscapes, funky layered breaks and of course the signature amen climax, all brought together in the storytelling style that defines Arnicvs!

Parallel has been a part of the JT family for 8 years now, since his first appearance on Warbreaker's show in 2011, joining up for his own show in 2013. Needless to say we were delighted when he signed up for our monthly promomix, and excited to present you with this showcase of his own work!

DJing since 1999 and producing since 2003, Parallel saw his first vinyl release in 2007 on Pinecone Moonshine, with many releases following on labels such as DSCI4, BMTM, Subtle Audio, Alphacut, Omni Music and Criterion Records, working with artists like Relapse, Tim Reaper, Infest, Acid lab, Ahmad, Eschcaton, Scale and Sumone.

Still going strong, Parallel keeps busy, most notably at the moment on his project with Richard Houghten called 'A Cosmic Gift', as well as his residency with the Gnosis DnB crew, based in Portland, Oregon. When not working on music, you can find him cooking food at the Ramen joint called Noraneko.

We hope you'll enjoy this presentation as much as we do, and although he's on a break, keep an eye on the schedule while we work to find him a new spot!

We often talk about 'JT veterans' whenever we introduce our latest curator, but this month it's more like talking about that REALLY nice comfy chair you've had in your house for as long you can remember. Having said that, we are delighted to present the September 2019 promomix brought to you by ODJ!

ODJ has been DJing for about 19 years, and close to that when it comes to hosting the Dirtbox Radio show on jungletrain.net. The fact that this is only his fourth promomix installment is because he finds it daunting to pick 20 tunes out of some four or five thousand he's got at hand on vinyl and digitally. However, he set himself to it, and would like to add the following:

"I focused on showcasing some of my recent and past favorites - tunes that you really do need to hear - and kept it mostly dancefloor friendly. There are plenty of tunes in this mix that have personal stories attached to them, and a number of them still make the hair on my arms stand on end every time I hear or play them."

This promomix is dedicated to Maddie, ODJ's wife and dancing partner.
