Jazz and electronica combines forces on this fascinating and innovative 12-tracker by sunking, hailing from the Highland Park area of Los Angeles. The project sees drummer and producer Bobby Granfelt flexing his jazz chops and influences from the experimental end of hip-hop, reworked and reshaped by composer Antoine Martel, whose pandemic-era 'electronic awakening' brought him to modular synthesis and jungle-style processing, reversing and chopping of Granfelt's raw drum breaks. Victory Nguyen of ANTI labelmates High Pulp completes the now three strong line up, adding flute and sax and more modular action to the likes of skittery 'Velvet Room', the forceful fusion funkiness of 'Clown Camp' and the seriously off kilter lope of 'Band Practice'. An original and fearless exploration of hitherto undiscovered musical terrain, but's it's as infectious as it is adventurous.
