The Miami-based L.I.E.S. and Apron correspondent mixes up a bunch of techno and electro for our 89th podcast. 
According to the man himself, we have the much-maligned internet to thank for the music of Greg Beato getting picked up for release by Apron and L.I.E.S. last year. All four 12"s issued in 2013 bearing the name of Greg Beato suggested that the Miami-based producer was capable of crafting some tripped out dancefloor material many veteran artists would be jealous of (not to mention the grip of memorable track titles he's been responsible for). This impression transfers to Beato's record playing skills, with the official L.I.E.S. tagline that he "DJs like a seasoned veteran who has been in the trenches fighting the fight for a long time" more than re-emphasised on his mix for Juno Plus. Clocking in at 75 minutes long, Beato skilfully runs through all manner of unidentifiable techno and electro on a mix that's been getting some serious repeat plays in our office.

Those wishing to catch Greg Beato in his element will be happy to discover that this month sees the youngster embark on a European tour, commencing with in Berlin with further events lined up in Paris, Milan, Frankfurt and a London date with Legowelt and Route 8 for the Find Me In The Dark crew. Despite Beato's acknowledgement that the internet played a key role in his music gaining wider recognition through FunkinEven and Ron Morelli's respective labels, the producer seems less inclined than many of his contemporaries with engaging in the self-promotion game, which made it somewhat of a surprise when he agreed to participate in answering some questions to accompany his mix. Mix of the Week #599: the Beat Broker - Extended Summer

West African in heritage, Naarm (Melbourne)-based Zjoso has quickly become an essential thread weaving through the city’s musical tapestry.

He is the founder of Tribqu, a platform celebrating underground music and culture. At the helm, he has successfully carved out a distinct role as a DJ, radio host, and curator. His monthly radio program on Skylab has become a cult favorite, while his dance events cultivate a space where music is not driven by a specific genre, but rather by a feeling and an exploration of sound and movement. Tribqu has energized a community movement of like-minded music lovers.

An accomplished and versatile DJ, Zjoso explores his love for soulful music across a broad spectrum. In a relatively short time, he has asserted himself as a prominent figure on Naarm’s clubbing circuit, with a discerning taste that touches on sounds like Street Soul, Dub Reggae, 90s House, Broken Beat and Detroit Techno. 

He navigates both dance floors and radio frequencies with perceptive ability and a sharp skill set. The recherché selector’s recognition is evident through invitations to share the stage with the likes of Ron Trent, Glenn Underground, Marcellus Pittman, Errol (Touching Bass), Hagan, Shy One, Bradley Zero (Rhythm Section), Ruby Savage, Steve Spacek, and Dreamcastmoe.

Having toured across Europe, South East Asia and New Zealand, Zjoso has played at parties and venues such as Rhythm Section, Secret Sundaze, Potato Head (Bali), Beam Cube and Friendly Potential. He has also played Australian and UK festivals such as Golden Plains Sun Cycle, Freedom Time, Hopkins Creek, Echo Beach, Strawberry Fields, Mode, Pitch Music and Arts Festival.

A love for dancing, a passion for discovering and sharing music, and an inherent motivation to bring people together through these forms serve as the foundation for Zjoso’s creative focus. He is a vibrant voice helping to define the shape of Australian dance culture.

Coloring Lessons Mix Series 074: ZJOSO

Here we go. The opening set of the first Dr33333ams party by Frinda di Lanco & Hendrik Stein does exactly what it says on the tin. Dreamy, flute-driven melodies melting into hypnotic drum patterns, 90s proto vibes meeting the fluorescent shine of the black light. The dj duo and initiators of the party with a penchant for vinyl records know their genres. Being able to resurrect with a fresh new dance-oriented concept after having just ended a colourful disco party series that used to be a collector's wet dream shows the couple's ability to grow and evolve, setting a focus on the dance floor experience, a raw and passionate moment to undergo. As always staying away from the obvious, Frinda & Hendrik have build their sound on the lesser known edge of progressive house, proto & freestyle house, HiNRG, euro dance, acid and trance. As a rather quiet force in time and space you can witness how the duo has put continuous hard work into musical research and refining their performance.
