This is Alchemy Maximum Joy mix Janine Rainforth - the Maximum Joy rework of one of the tracks from Janine Rainforth’s debut solo album Soul Retreival 

Reworked by Charlie Lleweliin, original founder member and drummer of Maximum Joy, the feel is moody and lush, synth-pop with spacious down-tempo bass heavy beats,

Janine Rainforth, lead singer and original co-founder of Bristol post-punk band Maximum Joy/MXMJoY released her debut solo album ‘Soul Retrieval’ on the 14th February via London Field Recordings.

Deserving to be cited aiongside their musical counterparts Gang of Four, A Certain Ratio and ESG, Rainforth co-founded Maximum Joy aged 18 and their spiky, joyful post-punk funk rose up from the fertile Bristol scene of the late 70’s/early 80’s. They released a number of cult classic singles including ‘Stretch’, ‘Silent Street’ and “White & Green Place’. The band toured extensively, releasing ‘Station MXJY’ in 1982 – an album part produced by the legendary Adrian Sherwood. Their final single  of that era – a cover of Timmy Thomas’ Why Can’t We Live Together & Man of Tribes – was produced by Dennis Bovell.

Rainforth’s career in music and with Maximum Joy was cut short by a near fatal serious violent sexual attack from within her close professional circle. She first spoke about this publicly in an interview with the Guardian.
After a number of decades out of the music industry, Rainforth has slowly forged her way back into performing and recording, with her first solo music EP released back in 2014, then in 2015, she spearheaded the reforming of Maximum Joy to perform at Simple Things Festival with a new line-up. In 2019, under the name MXMJoY, she & Charlie Lewellin released ‘P.E.A.C.E.’ which received critical acclaim from media including Pitchfork, The Guardian and Crack among others. 

This is a reclaiming of the music for Rainforth and she is in the process of planning some live dates to incorporate her new solo album alongside her rich back catalogue.

Disco, a vital Trojan horse (in local notion: a pop music you can dance to), stayed quite a long time In Yugoslavia, refusing to be silenced and refusing to jump into the bandwagon of expected. It was influenced by American and European disco sound, for example, by the Boney M, Amanda Lear or Love Machine, who all visited Yugoslavia and had live concerts. The producers and the big record companies like Jugoton, PGP RTB, Diskoton or ZKP RTVL, noted the hype in music and they constantly probed the market with limited run of seven inchers or special performances. Some artists were quite successful. We had our version of John Travolta (Zdravko Čolić), we had Boney M in Mirzino jato and other musicians that climbed the charts, but the rest were in the single empire which was free enough to experiment with all things disco had to offer – genre hybrids, use of electronics, sexual innuendo, bizarre lyrics and most importantly, great musicians and major composers having fun. The no-restrictions policy of disco was there to evade the rules and surely it did. (extract from the Liner Notes)

In accordance with relativity, they are in some sense interchangeable, but we do know that they form co-equal parts of a larger 'thing' called space-time, and it is only within space-time that the most complete understanding of the motion and properties of natural objects and phenomena can be rigorously understood by physicists. Space and time are to space-time what arms and legs are to humans. In some sense they are interchangeable, but you cannot understand 10,000 years of human history without including both arms and legs as part of the basic human condition.
