The premiere signing on Local Suicides newly founded label Iptamenos Discos is Austrian band Wiener Planquadrat. Consisting of Michael Weiler, former member of Burnin Tears (Luv Shack), and Maximilian Atteneder from bands such as Catastrophe & Cure.

Their single release entitled ‘Stillstand’ is the first ever from the duo with the promise of more to come via Iptamenos Discos. This feel good disco vibes track is built on punchy drums and catchy bass lines that channel the legendary spirit of the 90s Downbeat sound of Vienna. The uplifting flow of the song mixed with playful elements and analogue sounds blend beautifully while austropop-esque vocals float over the top. The lyrics describe a journey from the mountains to the sea and paints the picture that one is driving their convertible with the top down and as the sun shines and lush melodies fill the fresh coastal air.

The single includes a remix by Rising Seed which is the project of Lee Stevens (one of the founders of Luv Shack label) and musician Martin Arnold. Incorporating flutes & 80’s house piano this lively rework is all about letting the good times roll and would be the perfect soundtrack to a tropical beach party that goes until sunrise.

The single will be released with a short edit and a full length club version of the original and the remix on a strictly-limited clear Dubplate 12” and made available digitally on all platforms.

MAKS is 17 yr old Ben Marks a Sheffield based aspiring Musician, Producer / DJ & this, his debut release. Introduced to us by the always wonderful ‘Yarni' we were instantly drawn to how MAKS single ’North’ took us back to the 90’s. It’s also no surprise to hear that MAKS is a big fan of guys such as William Orbit & Moby.

Remix wise ’Sauco’ joins us again following his recent EP on COV & he stays true to the original yet effortlessly adds his magical Balearic touch.

Yarni (Well we had to) delivers remix number two and it’s a wonderful reimagining that further proves to us that he is one of the most creative producers out there.

This is a wonderful EP from a very talented young man with fantastic remixes from producers we much admire.

Golden Rift

Brooklyn producer Kyle Louis returns to Working Rhythms with “See You / Be,” a new pair of tracks that capture the artist’s most reflective and raw aesthetic.

Like many musicians during the pandemic, Louis explored new sounds and ideas while locked down in his New York apartment. Created between 2019 and 2020 and mastered in 2022, these recordings have remained in the vaults until now. “See You” is a warm and melodic chillout cut driven by a breezy breakbeat and shimmering synths. “Be” is a slower tempo deep house tune with hazy chords, tweaked percussion, and a healthy dose of Balearic atmosphere.

In finally releasing these lost tunes, Kyle Louis revisits pensive moments from his past and continues his creative partnership with Working Rhythms Records and label founder D.D. Curry.

In 2020, Leng Records quietly reached the ripe old age of 10 years old. To mark the achievement, co-founders Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy and Simon Purnell have compiled a special celebratory compilation featuring a mixture of historic tracks, overlooked gems, inspired remixes and previously unheard exclusives.

When founding the label, the pair wanted to represent the more chugging, mid-tempo end of the dance music spectrum – the point where 21st century nu-disco, Balearica and slow-house meets 1970s art-rock, krautrock and space disco. It’s this trademark cosmic disco-not-disco sound that dominates 10 Years of Leng, proving that the duo has rarely strayed from their sharply defined ethos.

Fittingly, the vinyl version of the compilation – a limited-edition affair which boasts a gatefold double-album and a bonus 10” single tucked inside – kicks off with an exclusive: the never-before-heard instrumental mix of Mudd and Harks’ joyous recent single ‘Susta’. Other exclusives across the collection include a wonderfully spacey and dubbed-out chunk of mid-tempo dancefloor fusion from San Francisco’s Cole Odin (‘The Numbers Game’) and, on the bonus 10”, brand new tracks from rising stars Lex and Harvey Couture.

From day one, Leng’s output has included commissioned remixes that are frequently the equal of, if not arguably an improvement on, the tracks being tampered with. That side of the label’s story is naturally represented on the compilation by a quartet of celebrated reworks: Mudd’s sleazy, mid-altering and insanely heavy ‘Slow Rave Mix’ of Tiago’s ‘The Source’, the glistening Balearic disco bliss of Max Essa’s instrumental version of Cantoma classic ‘North Shore’, Pete Herbert’s legendary piano-sporting nu-disco take on early Apiento gem ‘She Walks’, and an epic, dubbed-out Idjut Boys revision of Mountaineer’s ‘Golden Chalk’.

Elsewhere across the collection, Purnell and Murphy have chosen to showcase cuts from artists who have played a big part in Leng’s evolving story over the last 11 years. San Francisco’s 40 Thieves are represented by the druggy dub disco-meets-psychedelic rock chugger ‘Backwards Love’, while label mainstays Mushrooms Project offer up the even more psychedelic, rock-tinged headiness of ‘Hello Darling’. There’s also room for Turkish producer Ali Kuru’s inspired – and especially exotic – single ‘Luna’, and the low slung, always-rising cosmic disco heaviness of Fernando’s ‘Blue Impala’, an underground club smash for the label that first appeared in stores back in 2012.

Packed with sought-after tracks and overlooked gems, 10 Years of Leng is a fitting finale to the label’s first decade. In parts hazy, hallucinatory and heady, it deftly showcases the imprint’s refreshingly psychedelic and spaced-out take on contemporary electronic music culture.
