This track was written and recorded in 2010 in San Francisco, CA. Featuring Travis Porter De Leon on drumkit, Kevin Njikm on keys and guitar, Jared May on bass and Mama Crow on lyrics, main vox and harmonies. These musicians played LIVE for about 2 years in and amongst the Bay Area from 2009-2011. Before traveling to Hawaii, Mama Crow got in the studio with the band @ SERA PHI STUDIOS in the Mission to document this musical era.  

The content of this song is a true story of how to overcome hardships from the past and to consciously choose light in every moment. This song acknowledges the shared human truth of adversity yet focuses on overcoming all challenges regardless how dark the shadow to live an awakened life of empowerment. This is an anthem for everyone who embraces transformation on a day to day basis.

"Medicine” is a song-anthem honoring the traditions of folk medicine; plant-based medicine as a tool for empowerment and healing. It is a call to action to support the voices of the herbalists, healers, and teachers… the roots, plants, trees, and stones… the arts, the spirits, and the wild ones. It is an honoring of all the many ways that we can be well, and the radical and traditional ways in which we can steward health within ourselves. 

This song is a direct tribute to the people around the world who are holding and teaching these ways of herbal plant-based medicine, educating us all to know our gardens, our forests, our plants and our own bodies... to bring wellness back into our own hands and communities. It is not a dismissal of modern medicine, but a gratitude and honoring of its ancestry and foundations within folkloric traditions. 

This release comes on the New Moon after the Fall Equinox. As we are moving into a new season, a new time, and a new chapter, we offer this song as a ritual anthem for this transition and time of great change.

Loneliness today is more than a transient emotion—it has become an epidemic with tangible, devastating effects. 

Consider the stark statistics: one in six individuals worldwide feels lonely, and this isolation is linked to over 871,000 deaths each year. 

Loneliness not only inflicts emotional pain; it doubles the risk of depression and dramatically increases the chances of stroke, heart disease, diabetes, and cognitive decline. 

Furthermore, employers face billions in lost productivity and turnover costs annually. At its core, this crisis is rooted in a profound lack of human connection—a condition that undermines both our health and our economy. 

It is a call for renewed emphasis on community, empathy, and genuine companionship.

 
GENRE AS A VEHICLE FOR HEALING  
 

To battle this epidemic, we turn to music—a universal language that surpasses cultural and stylistic biases. 

The chosen genre is a precursor of jazz—ragtime enriched with dynamic jazz elements. This musical form is celebrated for its emotional neutrality and historical resonance. 

Ragtime and jazz, with their distinct instrumental and string sections coupled with a soulful tenor sax, provide a canvas that can bridge personal and cultural divides. 

This approach serves several key purposes:

• Neutrality and Inclusivity: Drawing on the ragtime roots of jazz bypasses modern biases, offering a medium that captivates diverse audiences with its timeless appeal.  

• Danceable and Upbeat Energy: The rhythmic, danceable cadence is intentionally crafted to elevate spirits and inspire movement—both physically and emotionally.  

• Clarity and Articulation: Featuring a male voice with clear diction guarantees that the motivational message is conveyed unambiguously, engaging the intellect and heart alike.
