HAD to get this one done; I started it quite a while ago, but couldn’t settle on a song sequence that worked, so put it to the side to look into it every now & then, but there was no delaying this no more, obviously… ❤️

And it sure is a heartbreaking time for music: I just read bass hero Anthony Jackson passed away, and not too long ago, Ron Carroll as well —- last saturday the word spread we lost Erik Rico too, and sadly they’re not the only ones: jazz fusionist Klaus Doldinger, Kiss’ axe player Ace Frehley, Detroit soul man Terry “Buzzie” Johnson and ofcourse Michael Eugene Archer aka D’Angelo…. all gone.

A lot of it has been written & said the past week, so I don’t need to go in there no more. Instead I’ve just finished up yesterday what I’ve started long ago, compiling & sequencing all the D’Angelo songs that didn’t see release on any of his 3 studio albums.

Which isn’t that many, to be fair. The man kept his music very close to him and seemed to be an artist who only wanted to drop music when it was the time to do so, so there’s not a ton of rare and/or unreleased material out there.

But what’s there, is there for the ages. 
And we lost a giant of a musician.
Rest well, D! 👑🙏🏽

If Daft Punk had written their song "Teachers" today, they would most definitely have had to include Herbie Hancock on the list... at least the late 70's version of Herbie that produced the cut edited here. Those crisp disco drums, rubbery bass line and, most noticeably, those talk box vocals, are featured all over their new album! But Herbie was doing it 35 years ago. Here's to the originators!
