Soul Clap describe him as the "best disco DJ in the world." Gilles Peterson called him the "edit king of 2011." And BBE has crowned him the "king of digging." Despite his association with disco, Kon's purview is much broader than a single genre. He's been a mainstay of Boston's hip-hop scene since the early '90s, and has started making waves in the world of house with a release on Soul Clap's label and an album on BBE that showcases his far-reaching style.

A true techno auteur, Mathew Jonson earlier this year released his second solo album, ‘Her Blurry Pictures’ on Crosstown Rebels, encompassing a new evolution in his rhythmically complex and timeless approach over eight fluid and rich composition. Now soon to drop is a package of unmissable ‘Blurry Remixes’ featuring a trio of first class reworks by Dixon¨ Tale Of Us and Akufen

Innervisions boss and Berlin luminary Dixon turns in a storming reimagining of the atmospheric, electronic matrix of ‘Level 7’ where straight talking techno does the driving as layers build, get stripped back then steered onto a more melodic path underpinned by a rumbling deep bassline.

Next up, the unstoppable duo Tale Of Us transport one of the more playful ‘Blurry’ cuts ‘Kissing Your Eyes’ into a brooding dubby sound bed of live sounding drums combined with rippling echoing synth melodies. Berlin based Carmine and Matteo aka Tale Of Us, first rose to prominence on the Visionquest imprint in 2011 and have since released on Life And Death and M_nus.

Glitchy tech meets raw rolling drum beats in Akufen’s ‘Body In Motion’ remix. As hypnotic, as you would expect from the Canadian mastermind, Akufen lures you into a trance and keeps you guessing, progressing from dextrous minimal textures to full on fluid jazzy piano interpretations.

Life and Death returns to its indie roots with this fresh sounding release from new artist, Dead Heat. The trio, formerly known as Esperanza, counts deep psychedlic influences (among others) as a significant factor in their well developed sound. Here they present two original tracks which frame two sides of an idea, a ying and yang of a raw and emotional journey across a modern alternative landscape with nods to the indie and alternative music of decades past.

Bosco is the darker of the two with a powerfully raw and driving bass that sounds like a modern day Morphine set on a Blade Runner-esque backdrop. Paired with a haunting and plaintive vocal it's an impressive force they make -- which makes the beautiful guitar and piano that come in towards the end all the more impressive in their counterpoint.

Remixing Bosco is Berghain resident and techno producer extraordinaire, Lucy. Here he takes the track to even darker and deeper territories as he creates a fine piece of well crafted techno that keeps elements of the original but twists them well to make them his own. Just what you might imagine hearing deep in the bowels of that Berlin insitution.

The Dam is the yang to Bosco's yin with a lighter more hopeful sound but with no less emotion wrapped inside. Here the piano and guitar takes the foreground earlier, to be later framed by a chugging bass and atmospheric synths that work together to create a blissful musical trip.

Taking remixing duties for The Dam is The Field, the project of talented Swedish musician Axel Willner. Mixing sonic soundscapes and classic songwriting, his take on Dead Heat's original is an impressive slice of both. A truly elegant interpretation of the original that stays with the listener long after the last note has sounded.

Italo-German Vincenzo returns to Anjunadeep with “Just Like Heaven”, the first single taken from his forthcoming fourth artist album “The Vanishing Years”. Having built his reputation over nearly two decades with timeless releases on iconic labels like Steve Bug’s Dessous and Anjunadeep itself, the album is shaping up to be an excellent reminder of Vincenzo’s impressive talent and longevity.

“Just Like Heaven” might be instantly recognisable to some as a cover of The Cure’s celebrated 1987 single. Vincenzo teams up once again with vocalist Minako Sasajima, who adds a delicate soul to Robert Smith’s romantic lyrics, which glide above a floating bass groove and falling synths. Full of emotion and colour, “Just Like Heaven” sees Vincenzo at the top of his game.

The first of two exciting remixes comes from another veteran of the German scene, Dave DK. A former resident at the legendary Panorama Bar, Dave’s recent releases on the excellent Pampa Records and Kompakt have been met with widespread acclaim, and he delivers another beauty here. Twisting the vocal almost beyond recognition, and layering it with dark melodies and left-field textures, Dave creates a memorable piece of atmospheric techno.

Swedish rising star HNNY is another artist on a hot streak thanks to recent EPs on Local Talk and Permanent Vacation. Taking an altogether different approach to Dave DK, HNNY’s remix is a raw and quirky slice of melodic house music, driven along by infectious bass stabs and twinkling melodies.

Vincenzo - Just Like Heaven (Dave DK Remix)

The man known as Maxxi Soundsystem needs little introduction to anyone who manages to keep up with the UK’s dance scene. Known as much for his remixing abilities, as well as his ability to create incredible original productions (for esteemed labels like Defected, Hypercolour, Ellum Audio and Culprit LA), Futureboogie Recordings are delighted to welcome him back following his label debut back in 2012. 

‘Near Me (Club Mix)’ finds Maxxi’s signature sound in full effect.  Soft and understated vocals from the ever-brilliant Danielle Moore (Crazy P) embrace the Maxxi sound of early hours house music; a solid pulsating bass line, with spacial percussion and pianos that occupy the gaps around the lead vocal melodies.   The ‘Barbarellas Version’ presents a more stripped back style without losing the great vocal chops of Ms. Moore.  With a more urgent bassline and a denser production aesthetic, this mix packs a punch that nicely compliments its Club Mix.

Title track, ‘Into The Woods’, ventures into his familiar territory of deep, melodic house music.  Ambient drones phase in and out of focus whilst wooden blocks, shuffling hats and snare rolls play with impeccably produced kick drums to maintain the dancefloor essentials in the track.  Quality and impeccably produced music from Maxxi, as always, and a sound that brings together many facets of dance music’s past, present and future….
