microcastle’s second offering of 2022 welcomes Mulya back to the label for a new EP. Based in Budapest, Hungarian artist Mulya brings an inventive approach to his brand of electronic composition. Throughout his varied discography, he touches on disparate themes and sounds, straddling a divide between intergalactic design and indie-inspired beats, often mixing both into one amorphous, unclassifiable sound of his own. As a favourite of Ame, Dixon, Fideles, Frankey & Sandrino, Innellea, Trikk and more, Mulya made his microcastle debut in July of 2020 with ‘Chrome Extra’. The five-track showcase was a prime example of the Hungarian’s creative attitude, ultimately leading to 2021 projects via Innervisions, TAU and his own Complaint Kulture imprint. Having gotten the year underway with ‘#SENDBRO’, a joint effort with fellow countryman and Complaint Kulture partner Sobek, Mulya makes a welcome return to microcastle with ‘REM’. 

Picking up on the themes he brought to his label debut, Mulya has created five new tracks rich with spirit and allusion. Beginning with the panoramic synth textures and haunted minimalism of ‘REM’, an unexpected shade is revealed through wailing horn-like drones and celestial sonics. Evoking a dystopian style ecstasy, this Echonomist and Innellea favourite proves once again that the most astute artists often find a way to the finish line, where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Meanwhile, ‘Inner Circle’ plunges us into the wormhole, collapsing under its own gravity as momentum builds and pyrotechnic synths steal the air, eventually breaking into a hyperventilating helium rush of clattering percussion and rolling rhythmic structures.

Moving forward with ‘Free Falling’, Mulya sustains an understated yet confident club energy. Dark rebounding rhythms and grungy basslines set the course for snatches of disembodied voices and satellite-like bleeps. These echoes of extra-dimensional sound salvage bring forth the unshackled mind melt of the aptly titled ‘Astral’. Mulya’s relentless curiosity for rhythmic and harmonic experimentation basks in retro-radiance here, as a delirious blur of broken beats, metallic fragments and acid-laced machine funk emerge from their sci-fi saloon slo-mo showdown. Rounding out the collection and sitting on a modern psychedelic perch of its own are the eternally fresh aesthetics and eager optimism of ‘Cosmos’, a feel-good jaunt that breaks into a rich textural rain of melodic colour, where euphoria awaits with arms raised and eyes closed.

Six years after the creation of their label Diversions Music, two bonafide legends in OXIA and Nicolas Masseyeff have decided to have remixes of one of the iconic tracks from the label's first release. "Connivence" is therefore remixed by their friends, talented artists Kiko, Black Circle, and Super Flu.

First up, goes the Rework of the original which is deep by layering in some dumpy drums and glitchy percussive sounds. Sweeping chords and the melody bring grand scale and a sense of melancholy.

The Super Flu Remix is then more driven, with a powerful kick adding the energy down low, as crisp hits and edgy melodies unfold in the space above. They cast a magic late night spell over the dance floor.

The Kiko Remix is a slick bit of melodic techno with slapping hits and nice textural percussion. It locks you in and then brings dark cosmic energy in the well designed chords and melodies.

Last of all, Black Circle absolutely delivers on this by stretching the record out in all directions, mixing luscious pianos and dreamy pads which transport the listener to a state of bliss.

These are four fantastic remixes of a still classic original.

ODTD039 sees the Oddity return of Casper Cole following his debut last December on Odd Echoes Vol.5 with 'Fortuna'. Now is the right time to delve deeper into his talents, calling on outstanding support from vocalist Ed Begley and Fur Coat for the remix. Emotion fuelled title track 'Matter Of Time' has all the attributes to storm the melodic techno charts. Featuring a stunning vocal from Ed Begley and a brilliant arrangement from Casper, who allows Ed's voice to shine while embellishing and layering analogue elements to complement his tones - heightening the sense of drama and tugging at the heart strings. Expect this to feature heavily in key DJ playlists. After signing the original Oddity label boss Sergio Munoz knew a Fur Coat Remix was needed to fully unleash the clubbing potential for this great track. Sergio amplifies all the important elements, while cranking up the energy and intensity. Deep pulsating stabs and punchy beats are underpinned by beautiful warm synths and subtle effects on Ed's vocal to create a truly compelling clubbing moment. The breakdown is a lesson in composition, taking 'Matter Of Time' up to a whole new level as the driving beats then re-enter and raise the roof. Closing track 'Overground' gives a wider insight into Casper as a producer, as he delivers a dark intense dance-floor cut with echoed arp lines, throbbing bass and rolling percussion. The break allows a brief release of tension, before drawing you back into the cavernous sounds. Perfect for an extended DJ set in a hot dark club.

PREMIERE: Casper Cole - Matter of Time ft. Ed Begley [Øddity]

Just This returns with its first collaboration between Hunter/Game and Croatian born DJ/producer,  Petar Dundov. 

The first track “Voices” follows a techno path where an emotional melody arrives after the main break, sounding like an artificial vocal. In the second track ‘Terca’ we can see the typical progression of a Dundov production, which gets you lost in a 10 minute “descriptive word here” journey. 
The EP finishes off with a remix of Voices by both Dundov and Hunter/Game, and follows the mood of the EP mixing the two artists' imagery and giving to the track a new perspective.
