Welcome to the third entry into the Resonance + Flow series. Kimber & I decided that this would be a perfect accompaniment for the Ashtanga Mysore monthly challenge kick-off; a monthly challenge to keep students active in their daily practice. These sets are always exciting & interesting to put together as they require some pretty unique & creative transitions, as well as maintaining a structure that works within Kimber’s practice. The further I dive into these grounding drum patterns & mesmerizing melodies, the more I increasingly recognize that this unexplored realm is where my passion should truly reside. In Taoism it is said that Yin and Yang are representative of light and dark qualities. Unlike Western culture, however, they do not believe dark to be wrong or evil, rather just being.

This performance and DJ set is a culmination of 5 years of creating music in various forms and bringing them all together into a dance medicine journey that will take you from ambient, downtempo and folktronica all the way to trap and heavy bass music.

The juxtaposition of light and dark elements is featured heavily in this dance medicine journey and is meant to bring the healing power of ecstatic dance to all!

The first two songs are written by me and will be released as singles in the future, followed by the DJ set, and sound healing to complete the journey.

Ecstatic Movement Tribe ~ Yin & Yang ~ Ecstatic Dance Medicine Journey ~ Live at Vali Soul 8/20/24

For those of you that have not yet experienced the Pumpkin phenomenon you’re in for a treat! This week the L.A.-based DJ/producer, a.k.a. Nicholas Alvarado, is our very special guest on the RIPEcast! 

We admit to being a little late to the Pumpkin party having just heard him for the first time at Lightening in Bottle this year, but Nicholas has been dazzling dance crowds in his native Los Angeles and at events like L.I.B. for years.  "Electrorganic mood music for romance and espionage", "Lovesauce", "Bouncy Lovehop" and "Folktronica"; Pumpkin's style is truly unique and defies any conventional description. And after experiencing his mesmerizing set on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon under the billowing ribbons of the Woogie stage, Zach Moore returned from L.I.B. determined to book the talented Mr. Alvarado for a RIPEcast. Lucky for us, he was well up for it!

A little more background on this week's guest....
Pumpkin is the music producer and curator behind the Wandering Marionettes and their eclectic event, Kabinet Theatre, as well as a member of the famed Los Angeles collective POCKET Underground. By embracing all moods and genres, Pumpkin's remixes and DJ sets have been known to inspire lust, love and laughter. Tactfully walking the thin line between hip-grinding rhythms and bittersweet lyrical melodies, Pumpkin truly loves every song he shares with the dancefloor.
