Entrancing. I am put down with the weight of beauty. I cannot move. It takes my breath away. I am hoping for rectification but I am only 4:24 minutes in. I am holding my breath. I am fighting for air.

Appropriate in title and purpose. I feel like I understand the sublimity of the Baltics. I could not stop listening although I am tired because it is late. It is also like a windswept winter night, standing outside of a house with a ex-lover inside.

En mayo de 2021, nuestra ponente Carolina Meloni lanzaba algunas preguntas centrales que orientarán esta sesión. Ella se preguntaba “en este ominoso apocalipsis vírico que habitamos, ¿qué tipo de sueño emancipatorio surgirá de nuestros cuerpos, membranas y deseos? ¿Cómo resignificaremos esa melancolía pobre en mundos que neutraliza y silencia toda desobediencia, toda lucha o subversión? ¿Qué sujeto político, micro y somatopolítico saldrá de esta mutación?”  

En esta sesión abordaremos la posibilidad de revoluciones en un mundo dañado y que necesita de nuevos imaginarios transfeministas desde donde abordar los múltiples apocalipsis que cada vez hace más creíbles el capitalismo. Pero ¿podemos pensar en esa revolución? Carolina Meloni dice “Sí podemos, sin embargo, apelar a repensar nuestro presente, asumiendo la urgencia de resignificar y construir una morada común desde proyectos colectivos verdaderamente democráticos, igualitarios y revolucionarios.”

I had two ideas for a new Techno subgenre: “Fibonacci Techno” and “Technoviking Techno”. The first would follow Fibonacci numbers as closely as possible. The second would sound like the first track in the famous Technoviking meme video (acoustics, not melodies or beats). The first I deemed easy to pull off, the second impossible. So to make a challenge out of this, I merged the two genres into “Fibonacci Viking Techno”. I followed the numbers as closely as possible, e.g. setting all values of instruments and effects to Fibonacci numbers (which musically makes little sense - but the concept asked for). The bass drum is on 8, most other things on 1, 2, 3, 5, 13 or 21. For effects I went up to 89 - wow! Then I tried to boost tone whole thing to Viking level, which I unfortunately did not reach. Kept it really short with lots of breaks, which is the norm in this genre.

Ici, l’auteure voyage à travers des paysages sonores qu’elle chérit, y compris le son troublant de la ligne de front en Ukraine en 2014 qui a été enregistrée par un bon ami alors qu'il documentait la guerre.

Commissioned by the Lithuanian National Philharmonics and written for the Estonian National Male Choir and Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, cond. Mikk Üleoja, for the "Freedom of the Baltics" concert, dedicated to the centenary of the re-establishment of the Baltic States

The phrase "here at the quiet limit of the world" from the poem Tithonus by Lord Alfred Tennyson became not only the title of the piece but also inspiration to reflect the phenomenon of the limits through musical metaphors. How can the separating limit between earth and sky be captured while one is still within the earth and another is already the sky?! The strings and voices in this composition are conceived as opposite elements: while the orchestra is going down and shrinking, the choir is rising up and expanding, until their trajectories, as well the dimensions of space and time, merge and the limits disappear.
