Stepping up for Tapes #48 is Edinburgh-based J Wax. He started releasing music in 2019 but in this short space of time the young DJ & producer has had two highly respectable releases, with a third out very soon. 

With his sets encompassing everything from electro, breaks, jungle, garage and more, J Wax is an artist gaining a serious amount of pace. He also co-runs Edinburgh based collective Palidrone, which has hosted acts such as SPFDJ, Sync24, Giant Swan, DMX Krew and DJ Stingray.

For the 2nd set of the night we had Doc Scott taking it back to the 90's in front of a sold out crowd, this is the 2nd of the 3 recordings that we are uploading from this memorable mid-summer event. It was a special night in June of this year with 800+ people crammed into Xoyo's upstairs room (from pretty much before the very first needle was placed on the record until going past the nights extended close). Again a big thanks to Benji B for inviting us down to take over the room.

The History Of Moving Shadow (1991-1998)

Here comes my first Atmospheric Session, for the year 2018. This time, there are some jazzier vibes thrown in for the flavour, also entries from artists or labels not normally associated with such music. 

To be completely honest, I recorded this mix in April already. I have an unhealthy habit of digesting the end result for a while, to listen to it through and through over and over again, to find the slightest mistakes. Perfectionism meets procrastination, so to speak. Fast forward three months - I reach the very same conclusion I usually do. This mix is great as it is, after all, it's all about the music. Each individual track has something to add into the blend, and my style tends to jump across different moods.

Pretty simple really. I NEVER WANTED TO MAKE MUSIC. I had djayed for 5 years before I released this. I'd made a tune in 93, but we never released it (I will put that up at some point also).

Summer 94, I was having Pie & Mash over East Ham, and Ola the owner of Just Another Label recognized me. I was resident at Labrynth, the only Hardcore club in London as every where had gone D & B / Jungle. He invited me in to the studio with Matt Quim (AKA Opitikal). At 1st we made "Music is Moods", then I invited JDS in who were my fav producers at the time (And because I didnt have a FUCKING CLUE what I was doing). My friend Gem done the vocals to this. The white labels were promo'd in November 1994, and it was released January 1995, over the years with remixes it's sold 10's of 1000's of copies and been on countless albums. Including my gold selling "Hardcore Classics Album" .... And the rest as they say is "History".
