An original composition for a game I developed (entitled "FireCell") as part of a group.

FireCell

•	This piece is inspired primarily by Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis, an extended letter he wrote to Lord Alfred Douglas whilst incarcerated. 
•	The piece is performed with an electronic track.
•	The electronic track consists of extracts of an audiobook version of De Profundis, along with numerous recordings of different people reading ‘De Profundis’ (Psalm 130) from the bible. The track begins simultaneously with the music, and indications are also given on the score to ensure performers keep in time with the track.
•	The audiobook is taken from Librivox.org and is in the public domain.
•	The main theme of the piece is hope. The first half of the piece consists of excerpts from Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis, in which he speaks of his sorrow and suffering. As the piece progresses, the recordings of various people reading from the Bible begin. At first, there are few voices; as the piece progresses there are many. The inherent idea is that no one is alone in suffering, and collective sorrow creates collective hope.
•	As well as this, the idea of each person as an individual is important in terms of this piece. For this reason, each voice begins at a different time and the various voices rarely synchronise with each other. As well as this, different accents and dialects (and different pronunciations of words) were encouraged when the individual people were being recorded.
