Solid Steel (5th December) It's a huge show this week as we welcome back Diplo to Solid Steel. 10 years ago Diplo released his album Florida on Big Dada and played his first UK gig in an intimate venue at the monthly Solid Steel club night (and twice more that year). He plays somewhat larger venues now, including a residency in Las Vegas and Madison Square Garden on NYE. To celebrate the reissue of F10RIDA, he drops a mix exclusively for Solid Steel which features the new Eprom remix of Big Lost from the album, plus music across the board from Deadboy, Radiohead, Pharcyde, Kaytranada, Heaven 17 and our very own Bonobo.

Who Do You Love Feat Robyn (Joakim Remix)

Berlin's Henning Baer is the latest person we'll be introducing before the weekend and he's a producer who'll actually be making his Farringdon debut on Friday. Obviously we asked him if he'd like to colour in between the outlines of his biography and reputation by putting together a mixtape for us that would embellish and explain a bit more about the music he plays and the styles he prefers, because we've always believed it beneficial to let the music speak for itself. As a founder a resident of the esteemed Grounded Theory party though, Baer's already put himself in the sort of position a lot of aspiring DJs covet, enabling him the sort of control and elasticity over his lineups and style of play that other's envy. And that shines bright in his mixing and selection. Now a regular at Berlin clubs of esteemed repute it's Baer's releases on his own K209 label as well as on Adam X's Sonic Groove and Psyk's Non Series that best express his penchant for thundering, functional techno; the sort you'll be sure to find in Room Two on Friday night...

Future Beats Radio Show 04-12-14

Even though a cursory glance at the reams of pages available on the interweb won’t give you much to go on when it comes to the story of London based DJ and producer, Jonny Rock; there's plenty of music out there to demonstrate that he's well versed in the world of disco-skewed and decidedly underground house music. He's also part of the imperative Freaks project with Luke Solomon and has independently released music on Wolf + Lamb, Playhouse and Music for Freaks among other top imprints. He’s also set to join Prosumer in Room Three on the 20th December to launch his fabric 79 album. 

To hear a bit more about what he's going to bring to the party in a couple of weeks’ time we invited the kind of mysterious producer to put together a mix to give us a taste of what we can expect from his set and if these 63 minutes are anything to go by he'll be bringing a whole load of soul, quirk and vibe to the floor.

TOB PODCAST 047: Vito & Druzzi

Having upped this one to our Soundcloud late on Friday afternoon, it dropped just in time for the eagle eyed follower’s weekend enjoyment but it was just shy of the time required to present it proper, right here on this blog. So when we arrived to the office this Monday morning it was pretty neat to see the sentiments of respect and appreciation its weekend listeners have offered the mix’s creator, Eddie Richards, which we think does a neat service to the position he holds as an artist today. 'Evil' Eddie Richards is a proper Godfather figure to London's house scene and he remains a key player as resident at Nathan Coles and Terry Francis's celebrated Wiggle party. Owner of the recently reactivated imprint, Storm, Eddie also partners with Terry Francis for their regular Room Three takeover, Demo; a night of four four blended music created to showcase who they both see as the next wave of talent on the rise. 

The next Demo event is set to take place this coming Saturday night with Moon Harbour protégé, Sable Sheep  set to join them on the floor. So, seeing as we're also huge appreciators of what Richards does we thought it well timed to ask him to produce his own fabric x Demo Mix to hear what he’s filling his sets with at this point in time as well as some of the latest productions his has in store for release on Storm...

Based in the States but signed to Night Slugs, Helix makes European music in an American way. Or is that the other way round? 

The US-Euro line is one that's been wheeled out before about Helix - he's even talked about his music in terms of Chicago legend Ron Hardy making grime - but it really is at the heart of what he does. He worships Detroit and Chicago - particularly the quick, raw mixing style of Jeff Mills and Derrick May, which is present in his FACT mix - but draws heavily from grime, to the point where he describes having Flirta D vocal his 'Drum Track' as "a fucking dream come true." And although his music could loosely be described as classic loop techno, it feels more in tune with current European sensibilities - particularly the Club Constructions axis - than most Stateside dance music.

Away from geography, what makes Helix's music work is the way he finds the subtleties in simplicity. Whether laying down loops of drum sounds and clipped chords ('Drum Track'; 'Stacks Riddim') or relentless techno (he described his recent Porsche Trax EP as DJ Vague as inspired by driving "fast in the dark – like hella fast"), he'll find exactly what makes a track work, and focus on it to the point where five channels and a simple 8 or 16-bar arrangement is all it needs. It's honestly uncanny.

The fourth track on Helix's FACT mix is listed as simply "horns & bass". Sometimes that's all you need, and no one proves it quite like this guy.

A mellow mid-tempo song - based on a strange, but driving, bass-heavy electronic beat, nasty synthlines and the absolute stunning voice of Lizzie Paige - the young American singer that performs all songs on the new Munk album along with London born vocalist Mona Lazette. 

The new single comes along with a great video by Milan based directors PROJ3CTSTUDIO. And remixes by PURPLE DISCO MACHINE (Exploited), new German producer genius LCAW and a country house version by Mr Munk himself.

Depending on when you met him and how, you either know him as a disco wizard, thanks to his productions under his own name, House of Spirits, or Lipton Whitaker; an excellent DJ who digs deep; the man behind Superior Elevation, his label and secondhand vinyl shop; an audiophile from Milwaukee; or all the above.

We recently had the pleasure of recording a show with Tom, which we now share with you today! At 2.5 hours, it's our longest one yet, which we certainly ain't mad about; the set will doubtlessly get you in a good mood or keep you there if you're already in one.
