Same Damn Old Voice

127 bpm, progressive techno.  I worked on this track for two days and really liked the way it was shaping up.  I took a break and went to see a talk at our local college leadership program with my partner.  The speaker was Kat Cole, CEO of Cinnabon.  Several of the things she said resonated with me - one of which is the phrase "be careful who your idols are".  I came home and with those words running through my head started working on the track again.  I was going to record some vocals to mix in, it occurred to me that I could borrow from Kat  but when I listened to what I already had done I can already hear those words in the french oboe melody.  So I left it alone.  A more important concept for me though is that too many people in our society idolize things: objects, "possessions", other people - I want to remind everyone (myself included) that the only idols that it is healthy to worship  are the GODS that we so easily bury deep within ourselves.  None of the others can help us.  Peace friends.

Short story by Matt Murphy, written some time in the early 2000's.  It drops the F-bomb a lot in a thematically deliberate way that I was basically serious about... but in like a serious-with-viciously-playful humor kind of way.  

Shoutout to anyone who's ever slung coffee, been deeply and quasi-permanently traumatized (but chill about it), or experienced prolonged bouts of mania as a sort never-ending, internal, and very vulgar musical theatre piece.

A short story by Bobby Dixon, who lives in Tallahassee with his wife and their animals. He has a family history of left-handedness, diabetes and cancer. Thank you for reading (listening).  

Meat Dad Bristles, Heat Dad Bristles

This is a sort of "bonus feature" of my short story "Good Morning My Captain. Fuck"  It is a loop of a single instance of my friend J saying the word "Fuck" in the story, multiplied 777 times.  There is a similar "wall of fucks" in the story itself, though nowhere as long, and with varied timbre and delivery for each respective "fuck".  That section of the story functions in a variety of ways, one of which is served by listening to this version of that particular "wall of fucks".  Enjoy.

PCIII was inspired while staying in Dallas/ Ft. Worth TX on tour in 2015, hearing reports of 11 earthquakes in a 24 hr period between Jan. 7th and 8th of that year. The area has seen an exponential rise of such quakes after the practice of Horizontal Hydraulic Fracturing (fracking) was employed to access local oil and natural gas wells.

Tom Waits (on Jim Wilson): "Wilson, he's always playing with time. I heard a recording recently of crickets slowed way down. It sounds like a choir, it sounds like angel music. Something sparkling, celestial with full harmony and bass parts - you wouldn't believe it. It's like a sweeping chorus of heaven, and it's just slowed down, they didn't manipulate the tape at all. So I think when Wilson slows people down, it gives you a chance to watch them moving through space. And there's something to be said for slowing down the world."
