The reggae city of Leeds gets a celebration on the new serious stepping release from Scotch Bonnet Records. The Yorkshire capital’s production partnership Danny T and Tradesman, who released debut LP Built For Sound on Scotch Bonnet last year, pair with legendary soundman Mark Iration for a rare vocal outing that shows his hidden talents. Over the thumping kick-drum and room-shaking bass you’d expect from Mark’s sound Iration Steppas, Up Deh is a reality tune about the dangers of life and rewards of music in the ghetto. Across two different flipside dub mixes, Danny T and Tradesman create industrial-strength soundscapes that translate the message into pure unspoken vibes.

After spending time in the studio surrounded by a tonne of incredible vintage production gear, they saw it fit to make a heavyweight Roots Reggae release featuring some classic artists, playing in an original and authentic style.

The EP features 3 vocal tracks of dubs from veteran JA Roots artists. Big ups to Trevor Byfield, Abyssinians and Prince Alla for the mega vocals all recorded in Kingston at Sugar Minott's Youthman Promotion Studio. Each track is followed by a weighty dub mix!

Reggae Roast today release their eagerly awaited debut album ‘Turn Up The Heat’ via Trojan Records newest label imprint Trojan Reloaded. The release of ‘Turn Up The Heat’ marks a new era for reggae through reimagining the roots of the sound in a way that makes it accessible for the streaming era. Listen to ‘Turn Up The Heat’, here. 

The album follows a series of singles which have been released off the record in the form of ‘Never B4’ featuring Mr Williamz, ‘Do It Again’ featuring Horseman and Natty Campbell as well as the most recent drop ‘Good Love’ alongside the inimitable General Levy. 

Having become a mainstay in the reggae scene, the album features an array of incredible artists all of whom are long time friends and collaborators of Reggae Roast which collectively creates a sound that has so much musical variation all whilst simultaneously marrying together to form a body of work and bold array of sounds all of which fuse together seamlessly.

A music collective that continues to push boundaries whilst simultaneously keeping the spirit of the genre alive, ‘Turn Up The Heat’ exemplifies Reggae Roast’s skilled musical craftsmanship in working with both new-gen artists and legends from the scene to create a sound that is both new and classic.

During such trying times, ‘Turn Up The Heat’ brings a burst of sunshine through its tropical reggae sounds underpinned by beats that encompass real reggae grit. With reggae often lauded for its music boasting such positivity and optimism, the new album is destined to add warmth to people’s playlists and radio waves marking the start of summer.

Reggae Roast is a sound system collective based in London. They have been running events at venues and festivals across the UK for over a decade and built their custom built sound system in 2015, in order to bring the sound to the people. Along the way partnering with an array of incredible talent the album is a collaboration project featuring some of their favourite artists.
