"Just Get Me To Bed" is the first of an upcoming six-song live album recorded at High Seas Studios in Johannesburg. Justin Swart explains the reasoning behind it all, “We've been working on ideas and music since the pandemic began. With nearly all live events being cancelled that was pretty much all we could do. Somewhere along the line though, the idea of a live album started to gain traction in the sense that we, in some way would be getting pieces of what we were missing from the live shows in each other, live in the studio. We pitched the idea to High Seas who jumped on board. We brought in Tiger and Lilly Productions to film it. They rest as they say, is history...”

High calibre rock and roll from the Basson Laubscher & The Violent Free Peace effusion! Recorded in the mystical mountains of Stellenbosch at the legendary Sunset Studios by Jurgen Von Wechmar, Testify is a rock n' roll monster that fights with the untamed beast of hard funk to spread Laubscher's message of rock n roll music and what makes the man tick. 

Funky grooves meet filthy fuzzed out guitars, whilst angelic organs and choir backup vocals gets wrapped up with pounding steaming syncopated drums and a blistering solo to cap it all off. 
The accompanying music video is a compilation of footage taken by the band on the road and captures the band in their natural habitat with all the blood, sweat & grooves of thousands of gigs. 

The video was edited by Basson Laubscher himself and captures life on the road with a refreshing honest depiction and gives you an unfiltered glimpse into life with the band and spreading the word of their powerful boogie. ‘Get The Picture’ is taken from iconic South African rock band Springbok Nude Girls 2022 SAMA Winning rock album(“Partypocalypse”). 

"This has definite punk influences and is one of my favourite tracks from our SAMA winning (!) album “Partypocalypse”. I heard this chorus in my head and worked backwards from there. Theo fleshed it out, and Francois brought the speed! As a band, and as a writer we need keep it exciting, colourful and as interesting as possible…try and try again, fail and fail again until the relentless hunger for magic grants you a break through. 'Elektrik Ram' is the new single and title track from South African stoner rock reprobates Ruff Majik’s upcoming album.

Vocalist and guitarist Johni Holiday’s quick stint in a mental wellness facility brought on the lyrics and structure of Elektrik Ram. Johni explains “What started as a fun ditty, emulating the sound of Siamese Dream era Smashing Pumpkins, became a triumphant battle song chronicling the power of picking up where you left off and trying again...".

He delves deeper into the message behind the song, “Conquering dependency on medication and machines (as a replacement for human contact) to step out victorious. It's a song about not letting go of rage but using it instead to break through the barriers of modern living.”

The first gasps of air this song took was a three-part harmony that Johni wrote using only his acoustic guitar and a tape recorder to lay down the ideas. From there it was presented to the other members of the band, with the idea of making a relentless juggernaut of a song. "It should sound like a swarm of bees, but with an uplifting crescendo" Johni said.

Lyrically, Holiday referenced the feeling of being incapacitated on a hospital bed and combined it with an allegory for oppressive and dogmatic religious views, to drive the point home that "fate will not grant you any favours, you must take them."

Feels incredible to be releasing my Debut Album, it's been such a long process and such a long challenge it kind of felt like this day would never come, but it did.

Conceptually the album is about romanticizing a naive world view. That naiveness and ignorance is something to be cherished. There's something really beautiful about the perfect worldview you have as a kid, that the world is harmless, beautiful and good. The more you learn and experience though the more you realise everything isn't perfect. So the less you know the more beautiful it is, it's the things we haven't done, the places we don't know, that have this unquestionable beauty to it. it's this world i'm trying to mirror with my album, the one that stays in your imagination.

Musically i knew i wanted to do a sonic representation of the concept, blending worldly sounds with small bedroom type samples and soundscapes. I really loved the idea of those two polarizing things being the two main factors that would lay the ground for the album.

DJ Qness - Sink Or Swim (feat. Josh Wantie) [Preview]

This young outfit made their mainstream live performance debut at the Oppikoppi festival earlier this year, where they were warmly received by screaming fans that immediately latched onto the band’s fresh sound and youthful, fun image.

Shaped around school friends with a similar passion and taste in music, the band could be mistaken for a calculated new boy band, quite the contrary. The lads are all gifted musicians with a natural flair for producing top notch pop-rock. Of course it helps that their youthful image has a strong appeal to the young fan base that is quickly emerging.

The band comprises Brandon Holz (guitar), Luka De Wet (drums), Reuben Pieterse (vocals) and Josi Goncalves (bass guitar). 

Recently signed to top independent record label Just Music, Oh! Calamity’s debut single entitled “Perfect Stranger” is being released on the 8th December, just in time to penetrate the market over the holiday season. The song was penned by guitarist Brandon Holz, who has also composed most of the material being recorded for Oh! Calamity’s 2018 debut album with producer Matthew Fink at the Just Music studio.

A schedule of live shows is being put together to take Oh! Calamity on the road early in the new year. By then, we expect that this exciting new band will no longer be perfect strangers to media and the local music industry.

Singer songwriter John Niel, is one of Just Music's recent additions. John marked his single debut with the hugely popular song “Heart Of Mine” which found multiple adds across South African radio. John Niel was one of the 10 participants from the Just Inspired Live Acoustic Sessions project hosted by Just Music in 2017 where his unmistakable talent and charisma captivated the audience.

Born and bred in Pretoria, South Africa, John finally decided to bring his music to Cape Town after performing all over in Gauteng for more than 8 years. After school he took to busking where he performed in front of various shopping centres / restaurants in order to hone and develop his craft. Now a signed artist with the record label that helped put Matthew Mole and a few others on the map, it looks like this break out artist’s upward trajectory is now firmly in place.
