To trace Midnight Martins roots you have to go back to the mid 2000s. During the climax of minimal techno, he began his musical journey as sales advisor at the legendary record store Freebase Records in Frankfurt/Main. Not only deeply influenced by infamous local DJs and Robert Johnson residents of the era such as DJ Meat, Dorian Paic, Vera, and Federico Molinari, but also surrounded by regular customers like Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Väth, Raresh and many others, he took his first steps as a DJ. The enthusiasm of his creative environment led him eventually to techno culture and captured his ongoing interest for underground house and techno music. In 2008 he found himself keen enough to break new ground and moved to Berlin to work for the internationally renowned label Get Physical Music on the one hand, but also to advance his recently started career as a DJ. At that time minimal techno slowly morphed into minimal house, and from 2011 until 2015 he was also in charge as label manager for Oslo Records, the well-known house label founded by Federico Molinari and Nekes. For more than 15 years now Midnight Martin has been spinning vinyls and played in clubs like the Robert Johnson, Watergate, Club der Visionaere or famous Bar25, and after a few years of musical abstinence, he is now back to pick up his old trail again. In spite of musical trends, he has always remained true to his own sound over the years. Old classics play an important role in his sets as well as contemporary productions. Important influences include jazz, disco and soul as well as early house productions of the late 80s, and the 90s from Chicago, Detroit and New York.
