Walking past off licenses, fish and chip shops, laundrettes — all closed; it’s an encounter with memories while the gradual disenfranchisement of one idea transforms into the attractive start of another; Orlando; an analysis of the vast chiller and the vast historical warehouse; looking at a painting; docks and the river. A picaresque of chillers. Journeys along lengths and lengths of brittle cold shelving units, buckling under the weight of the boxes they hold in the outskirts of cities, beside motorways, behind shops. A reckoning with the supermarket vis-à-vis ourselves and our quotidian.'

For to wish to forget how much you loved someone - and then, to actually forget - can feel, at times, like the slaughter of a beautiful bird who chose, by nothing short of grace, to make a habitat of your heart. I have heard that this pain can be converted, as it were, by accepting "the fundamental impermanence of all things." This acceptance bewilders me: sometimes it seems an act of will; at others, of surrender. Often I feel myself to be rocking between them (seasickness).

Betonska Basta #22 w/ k cidder

For the third episode of Invisible Cities, k cidder and Cardboard Lamb wiped the dust off of Calvino’s hallucinatory pamphlet and riffled through its pages, dropping breadcrumbs to form a beaded red thread they wove around each other’s wrists. The beads of the thread spell out –– the skull at the base of all cities. The focus is not what the city is, but what it could have been, what you imagined it would become, what you remember it to be. In short, not the city itself, but the personal perception of the city –– its affect on one’s imagination.

Her guest, k cidder is a dj and researcher interested in the sonic identities and memories of spaces. He is also half of Self and Other, a show on NTS that explores themes such as dreams, rivers, and the anthropocene in kaleidoscopic visions, researched and lovingly put together over the course of months. He navigated the barge on this chapter, steering through his memories, emotions and association to respond to four of Calvino’s cities.

Recollections of childhood video games and hours spent at the communal cinema merged with reimagined memories of how it would have been to navigate adolescence in a familiar city altered minutely by design choices and mythical guests; projections of the idea of home in cities dismantled and reconstructed. The episode contains traces of the people and places that have defined the cities he has lived in, working as an imaginative counterpart to Calvino’s cities of Tamara, Zirma, Fedora, and Valdrada.
