Adam Beyer invites the legendary DJ Rush to make his Drumcode debut, as the pair link for a stirring maiden collaboration, ‘Restore My Soul’.

The DC boss holds a deep respect for the iconic Chicago artist, the relationship stretching back 25+ years to their time touring the German techno circuit in the 90s. The title track builds dramatic tension via elastic synths that oscillate alongside Rush’s vocal, taking things to heady levels. ‘Control’ is a thick wedge of industrial-edged rhythms, with Rush’s famous vocal providing a commanding presence throughout. ‘Take Me There’ is stirring in composition, transitioning from crushing percussive loops to deep techno funk, before working towards a teased out crescendo as Rush’s hypnotic refrain echoes in the air. A deliciously pumping DJ Rush remix of ‘Restore My Soul’ rounds out the package.

Paul Wise aka Placid is the driving force behind ‘We’re Going Deep’ – a thriving online community and record label that’s showing no signs of letting up as we glide towards the end of 2021.

Sticking to the trusted format of 4 tracks of high grade electronic explorations per EP, all sourced from equally excellent artists. WGD 005 fires its way into orbit on Side A with the opening chimes of Australian producer Tim Jackiw’s ‘Urban theory’. A purist slice of machine driven techno-soul that plots a cosmic trajectory through sharp FM bass tones, powerful kick and driving 303 - all drawn together through sparkling rings of chorded melody. As the rattle of metallic snares and searing acid rise, the track unleashes at warp speed: bringing sheer delight. Followed by the expansive talents of 030303 hitman Böhm, ‘The Search’ meanders deeper into interstellar fields with a jam packed full of melancholia, making full use of minimal machine elements for a maximal sound.

Welcoming another original purveyor of electronic music from Australia to Side B, the legendary Biz straddles the line effortlessly between IDM and Electro with the wonderfully uplifting air of ‘Meltdown’. Stacked full of low-end and glistening solar frequencies, his take on the deep space sound will definitely have fans of Automatic Tasty, Moy and Cignol phoning home. Last but not least, Yorkshireman Al Bradley plots a course back towards inner space, serving up a slow acid bubbler that’s text book in terms of restraint and poise – perfect for those orbital moments as you near your final destination.

Trainspotters Nightmare was a label i used to run with Glenn Wilson of Planet Rhythm, between 1995-1997. It all started with me releasing an obscured 2 track black 12 inch vinyl with no visible title. An idea my friend Danijel Alpha had was to only inscribe the titles onto the vinyl itself, so no unauthorised trainspotters could see what records you where playing.  And after receiving many interesting demo tapes from all corners of the world, a platform was needed where we could release trax that didnt fully fit on our labels H-Productions and P-Rhythm. 

So we continued and during the 2 years we managed to launch 13 vinyl releases, including special colored vinyls and double 12 inch albums. We realized that it would not be fair towards the other artists, if we didnt place names and titles on the vinyl centerlabels. This resulted in us addapting a Trainspotters Nightmare logo in Brail writing which suited the “Ghetto Booty” sound template of the label - being rusty, broken, skewed or even a bit out of sync.

From Finland we have some truly exotic jacking tracks by Ari Jukka, Jori Hulkkonen and Tuomas Juhani. Austria is represented by V-Key from Vienna, that also had an amazing electronic dancemusic scene back in the 90s. Chicago pioneers Steve Poindexter, Gene Hunt and The Beatjunkies bring in the scent of legendary clubs like Warehouse and the Music Box. Besides my own name Cari Lekebusch there also are a few tracks released under my pseudonyme Mr Barth, and the Twobasementboys consist of me and Frankfurtian original freaknoisefunker Oliver Bondzio.

Now, 20 years after the labels discontinuation, it was time for me to record a nice retrospective line through the catalog. Enjoy the jack! * with peace / Cari *
