Sparrow & Barbossa (Swiss Bryan Coletta and Uruguayan Emiliano Haberli) are a globetrotting DJ and production duo that are true lovers of ethnic and lost cultures and are devoted to transmitting this legacy through electronic music. As the world’s dance floors opened back up after lockdown, the duo were struck by how their music resonated with fans. “People told us how our music went with them through depression and through COVID, and it helped them,” they said. These emotional exchanges became the creative spark for their sophomore longplayer, Réciprocité.
 
The album consists of 14 tracks that showcase Sparrow & Barbossa’s vast range and musical maturity. Amongst the organic and electronic Latin house sounds is a dizzying and intoxicating adventure through time zones, dance floors, and generations. “We travel and gather so much energy from people. When they listen to our music and come to events it gives us energy and we wanted to take that energy and transmit it back through the album,” says Bryan (Sparrow). “This is our way of saying thank you to fans.”
 
The duo’s love of global influences manifests in collaborations on 12 of the album’s tracks, including appearances from artists based in Spain, Cuba, Turkey, Rwanda, and beyond. These include inspired performances by singer Maria de Moraes, who is the daughter of Brazilian bossa nova legend Vinicius de Moraes, Lion King musical singer Phindile Ndlovu, flamenco singer Osaba, Elektrofon, Turkish pop singer Kaan Akalin, Kenyan Afro-House singer-songwriter and performer Idd Aziz, Zimbabwean singer Vuyo Brown, and Turkish flutist Eyüpcan Açıkpazu.
 
Hector Romero, A&R Director at Orianna, first encountered Sparrow & Barbossa in 2018, and has watched their meteoric rise to underground cult-like stardom in that short period of time. “Earlier this year the boys shared a sketch of the album and once I heard it, I knew it was a great fit for Orianna. Réciprocitéshowcases some of their most intelligent and well-crafted compositions to date and is a testament to their evolution as artists. Myself, Dusko Justic, and the entire team are proud to represent them and assist them in getting to their next phase as live performing artists.” 
 
The release of Réciprocité follows three single drops from the album earlier this year, including “Condenao” with Spanish salsero vocalist and producer G.Zamora, “Bien Buena” with Cuban vocalist Eribertho Cruz, “Vagabundo” with flamenco vocalist and guitarist Chico Castillo (known as “The Gypsy”), along with what is arguably Sparrow & Barbossa’s sexiest tune to date, the June 1st release of “After Saturday Night”.

I wanted to make this one a journey from start to finish. I was hoping for an official release after Billie and her mom both liked my posts but understandably they don’t do official remixes. That being said her team was nice enough let us post to soundcloud for you all to enjoy. When it comes to musical discovery, sometimes the stars just align. DJ and record collector, Steve KIW, put Mr Bongo onto this amazing Chilean cover version of Jamie Principle & Frankie Knuckles' all-time classic 'Your Love’. Despite being originally released 13 years ago, it had recently started to prick the ears of house and Balearic connoisseurs in the UK, further cemented by inclusions in the Idjut Boys epic sets. Steve heard them play it, tipped us off and it soon became a favourite at Mr Bongo HQ.

By pure chance when the Mr Bongo DJs joined Luke Una to play at La Paloma ballroom in Barcelona a few weeks later, Luke dropped this incredible interpretation at the peak of his set. A good friend of his, Michelle from Huddersfield, had also put him onto the track and he instantly fell in love. A serendipitous coming together, 'Tu Amor' seemed like the perfect next instalment in the É Soul Cultura discography.

The version in question was released in 2012 as part of a digital-only EP. It came courtesy of the Chilean DJ, producer and singer Mamacita (Carolina Vallejos) and producer Sebastian Roman, aka Persona RS. Meeting Sebastian while out partying in Santiago during a boom time for electronic music in Chile, their shared passion for making house music in Spanish and their admiration for Frankie Knuckles led to the creation of this raw and unique cover version.

Recorded on lo-fi equipment, including an old Windows laptop and a borrowed Neumann microphone, it nods to the DIY ethos of the early Chicago productions. The result is a stripped-back, quirky cosmic take on a stone-cold classic, full of squelching synthlines and Carolina’s stunning Spanish vocals, that became a club hit on Chile's underground circuit. However, aside from some Latin American and US DJs picking it up, it never got the international recognition it deserved.

Fast forward to 2025, and É Soul Cultura is proud to present the glorious 'Tu Amor' on vinyl for the first time, backed with a new, extended, club re-edit by É Soul Cultura captain Luke Una and Luke Solomon (Classic Music). On first hearing ‘Tu Amor’ Luke Una recalls, “There was a real charm to it, it was quite an unorthodox arrangement, a huge wonkiness and just sounded so DIY in a brilliant way. I was chatting to Luke (Solomon) about how much we loved it and we decided to re-edit it together. Accentuating the wonk of those crazy synths, we’ve extended it to make a fiercer underground club tool, without taking away that very charming cosmic feel”.

The explosive ‘Higher’ is the perfect way for Beyond Therapy to announce their arrival as a duo. Comprised of world-renowned producer Ollie Jacobs (Leftfield’s ‘Leftism’, The Prodigy, Madonna) who runs the famous Rollover Studios in West London; and Paul Clarke, aka DJ Dougal, one of the original ‘90s happy hardcore artists, voted best rave DJ in the ‘90s by MTV. Angie Brown’s scintillating vocal is like a shot of adrenaline as she delivers the celebratory, powerful lines “breathe life into me...bring me higher love”. Deployed alongside the vintage breaks, uplifting piano chords and bass-infused rave beats, ‘Higher’ is a vibrant, unforgettable track ‘breathing life’ into a challenging year.

Angie Brown said: “I got a phone call from Rollover Studios inviting me to come in to the studio and collaborate with the fantastic producer, Ollie Jacobs. We put a date in the diary and I turned up listened to a huge sounding instrumental. We came up with an idea of “breathing life in to me” and “bringing me higher love” and we settled on a title ‘Higher’. I loved working with the guys they made me feel at home. I’m very excited we’re releasing the record on one of the world’s foremost cutting-edge dance record labels, Champion.”

Ollie and Paul from Beyond Therapy both found their love for dance music through the early ‘90s rave scene. Uplifting pianos and breaks were the music that united the UK. No longer were people going out fighting but coming together and finding new meaning in life. With these unprecedented times Ollie and Paul wanted to make music that made people feel inspired and positive as music did back in the 90s. 'Higher' is an authentic look back at when times were simpler.
