Sound System Culture: On the Radical Roots of Rave - Cate Hops & Dubtron - 20 Dec 2023

Cate Hops is an anthropologist, radio host, DJ and live performer. Musically, she floats between subcultures and genres. Embedded as a DJ in the Berlin bass scene, Cate Hops fuses ambient, early roots reggae and futuristic sound patterns from all areas. While as a performer she has also been working on her own live noise improvisations, she mainly plays with her two partner projects KYOOT, a noise-hip hop duo and Ruido Polimnix, an experimental ambient collaboration. 
With the ongoing project "Sound System Culture: On the Radical Roots of Rave", she initiates events in which the audience is actively involved. In her radio show, she invites guests from her network to discuss with her and play their favourite tracks. As a researcher she lectures at different festivals, conferences and universities.

Artificial Intelligence turns emotive on a Swiss underground radio dataset and gives up in peace – collective curatorial practices winning over. This radio feature is a collaboration between Norient and @radiobollwerk. Based in Bern, we share the same city of origin with this Swiss internet radio. The feature is to be seen as a local add-on to the Norient book «Politics of Curatorship: Collective and Affective Interventions», released in Spring 2023, and a creative by-product of the curation of a Swiss underground spotlight in the program of the 13th edition of our Festival in January 2024 by the radio crew.

Hi, for a proper jump into May, we present an exclusive guest mix by @bassb0uncebe by from Chemnitz, Germany. Together with FLAX they organise Lapislazuli, an event for (genre)fluid bass music. 

She presents a mix reflecting of what she currently adores in club music with some of her favourite artists, fresh discoveries and mostly new releases. The motto, for now and for long: stay fluid.

Her guest mix will be introduced by a short warm up set by Arcane Patterns co-founder @k-lone aka Alienationist.

Kl.ne is a Berlin based producer for kinetic bassmusic with wide space, viscous drones and erotic breakbeats. His live sets are known for dialectic moods ranging from a subtle vertigo to pure polyrhythmic dancefloor pleasure.

He is currently part of the music duos INRA and aphtc and the bass music collective "Planet Reese". In summer 2018, his duo aphtc released their first 12" on their new launched label Arcane Patterns.
