The Pains of Being Pure At Heart's 2009 self-titled debut album was truly an out-of-nowhere smash, garnering widespread acclaim from the likes of The New York Times ("sensitive and sublime, Best of 2009), Pitchfork (Best New Music, Best of 2009) and NME ("pure indiepop to hold close to your heart," Best of 2009) to countless indiepop forums and blogs, and landing the band a dedicated following that endures to this day. 2011 follow-up "Belong" aimed for the starts and hit the mark resoundingly, full to the brim with monster tunes and polished to powerful perfection by the production and mixing team of Flood (Depeche Mode, U2) and Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride). The combination was a resounding success, vaulting the Pains to a spot in the alt-rock firmament rarely reached by indiepop bands and cementing their status as one of the seminal guitar-pop bands of the era.

“Fallout” is built around a dark, spacious trap foundation, driven by a tight low-end and clean, punchy drum design. The track leans heavily on atmosphere, using layered pads, subtle noise textures, and precise FX automation to create depth without overcrowding the mix. The 808 glides sit firmly in the pocket, locking in with the minimalist percussion to keep the groove steady and controlled. Each element is deliberately placed, letting the reverb-soaked synths and filtered transitions shape the mood. The result is a cold, cinematic trap piece that showcases detailed sound selection, dynamic shaping, and a refined sense of space within the mix.

Swiss producer, songwriter K-WIS pursued a passion for music ever since the age of six when he received his first guitar. At thirteen he produced some of his very first tracks digitally, encompassing classical cinematic music, chill trap and lofi beats. Since then he has produced several popular remixes on YouTube.

Among his idols for producing music is Avicii from which he took some inspiration to collaborate with artists on tracks. His production style follows various moods from upbeat, aggressive to gloomy and sad, taking some inspiration from the producers of the likes of Travis Scott. His recent remixes dabble in the anime genre with a unique electronic sound that combines orchestral and synthesised instruments together.

Currently, K-WIS is working on several new albums and remixes together with rappers and singers. Stay tuned to hear more of his tracks!
