Theo Parrish grew up on Chicago house parties. He went to art school in Kansas City, and then moved to Detroit. His eclectic DJ sets in Detroit in the late ’90s and early in this millennium are legendary. 

“Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a tribute; An expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. Using the same understanding openly and respectfully can turn DJing into a spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history; Necessary listening through movement.” This personal philosophy gives shape and direction to the distinctive sounds that are created by Theo Parrish. To coincide with our Mr Bongo x Higo Beat Japan tour featuring DJ Nature we are shining a light on some of the incredible Japanese DJs we have joining us.

 Osaka-based Natsuki is regularly found spinning across venues in Osaka and beyond, whilst also working at the esteemed BAR Inc. With a sound unconstrained by genre and rather focussed on feeling, she’s weaved together an eclectic mix straight from the heart. Picking out a beloved cut she mentions: “My favourite song is ‘Bird's Lament’ by Sylvain Riflet. When I first heard this song, I felt a melancholic melody, but also an uplifting feeling, and the contrast really captured my heart. Having played this song many times in various places, I've always wanted to include this in a mix, so I'm very happy that I was able to do so this time.”
