Ah, here's that carpe diem again!  The ultimate inspirational message!  I dig the heavy psych vibes to this one, and always cool to hear Josh on vocals!  Stellar drumming as always, keeping the track steady.  Sorry for the belated response to these two last tracks, I heard them on Josh's page, and am only now getting around to listening on everyone elses page.  Great stuff guys!

Awesome drumming on this one Ken.  I love how you can keep that steadiness behind any kind of psychedelic swirl of sounds going on around you.   Probably didn’t hurt that you played a lot of Beatles tracks ha.  Fantastic work man.

I've caught this one a couple times now, and wow- can't get enough of this one. Everything I've heard Mahan touch recently is just really resonating with me. And this is probably my favorite of Josh's lyrics/vocals, cool to hear him move in that direction. All around awesome piece y'all!

The Eclectic Collective — composition and mix

  This is the second song in a row that The Eclectic Collective is releasing in as many weeks that was written by Chris. We love working on his songs, and all jumped at the chance to play with this one, as well. He wrote it on an acoustic guitar, onto which he also put some heavy reverb, giving it an ethereal, chordal sound. To that bare bones, Josh fist added his four-string fretless bass to a click track, of all things. Luckily, Ken swooped in soon after and gave it a proper beat with his lively percussion performance. 
  Once the rhythm section was complete, Tez added his melodic, golden-tone guitar in there. Then, it was JJ's turn. He added not only the piano and synth, but wrote the lyrics and sang it, as well. 
  This song was actually mixed by the group, as we all added our parts, although Ken did some final adjustments, too.
  JJ's lyrics tell the story of the first people to reach Easter Island, millennia ago. The wonder of the journey and the discovery of a new home, while using the materials available to survive. Here are his original lyrics.

A small tribute to Wolfgang Palm! I didn't really put much effort into the composition and to be honest I composed it in a hurry! I didn't touch the oscillators at all and there was no change in frequency. The sound was made with the random function of this excellent virtual synth! Next time I'm going to try harder with my limited musical knowledge!

This song began with Mahan writing a chord progression on his acoutic guitar in hopes of doing something different than his usual punk influenced raucous experimentation. He shared it with Josh after they found each other on the Cloud a couple months ago, and discovered they liked each other's music. Originally, Mahan asked Josh if he'd add some vocals. So Josh, thinking that was as far as he was going to go with it, came up with the lyrics, vocal melodies, and harmonies. Then Mahan encouraged him to add some more parts, if he wanted. So, Josh laid down a piano, mandolin, and bass part to go with it. At that point, it was sounding like a much bigger production than what either of them had accounted for. 
  That's when Josh got the rest of the Eclectic Collective involved. First in was Ken, who added his awesome drums to the mix. Josh and Ken went back and forth a couple of times, as they usually do when trying to dial in the rhythm section. Tez jumped in next with his dynamic electric guitar solo at the end. Then, Mark came along and added the cool, proggy melotron at the end, too, as well as did some expert editing. At this point, it sounded so big that Josh decided to add the symphonic strings you hear throughout, too.
  Once it was in the can, we turned it over to Stephen who not only mixed it brilliantly, but also added a trippy banjo you can hear in the second to last section. 
  We had so much fun recording this, in no small part because Mahan is such a brilliant and desirable collaborator. He really set us up with some magic, and we ran with it. All of his music is exciting and worth a listen on his page. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.
