@BizarreBilly puts on #italodisco on special request by @Shimanski030 for her birthday! What is italo disco? From the '50s into the '70s, the Italian public was used to listening to their own Italian music most of the time, therefore Italy has a big industry of music studios and production facilities. Towards the end of the '70s, suddenly a new generation considered it uncool to listen to music in Italian language. The studios quickly adapted and started producing music in English and other foreign languages. While the rest of the world was distancing itself from disco, the Italians decided to take the funky aspects of disco into the new electronic dimension that computer sequencing opened up after 1981, resulting in a music niche that combines funkiness and '80s cheesiness with funny expressions and accents while somehow still maintaining the typical Italian songwriting style that touches the heart emotionally. Fourty years later it still makes sense to fill an evening with pieces of just this little not so little musical niche. The mix only contains few pieces that do not strictly qualify as italo disco considering that it is a live recording for a live audience that didn't even know it was going to dance to italo disco for 3h in a row, and therefore some dramaturgy involving one song they would know was appropriate.
