My monthly 'Headz Mix' for December 2024 is strongly inspired by the compilation “Future Sounds Of Kraut Vol.3” (released by Compost Records). Upon first listen, retro-futuristic images quickly came to mind, inspired by the science-fiction visions from the 1970s and '80s.
Somehow I found the idea exciting, to make my own excursion into this area of music. And so “Future Sounds Of Kraut Vol.3” was the source of inspiration for this mix, which finally contains only 3 tracks from this compilation.

Headz-Mix 2024-12

40 Thieves are back on Roam Recordings, teaming up with vocalist Alona to release their latest cosmic disco gem, "Shake You Off". Fans of the trio (Layne Fox, Corey Black, and Jay Williams) might recognize them from the dancefloor classic "Don't Turn it Off (I Think I Like It)", their eclectic album "The Sky is Yours", or their previous Roam hit "Take Me I'm Yours".

This new single delivers a dancefloor-ready track featuring Alona's vocals layered over lush electronic melodies.

The release also features two standout remixes from Roam Recordings alumni Shubostar and label boss Jason Peters. Shubostar kicks things off, maintaining the warm, inviting vibe while introducing a dash of Italo disco flair. Label founder Jason Peters takes a different approach, stripping down the original to create a deep, pulsating, heavy version. Rounding out the release are an instrumental and radio-friendly edit of the original track.

This project has strong San Francisco roots, and we couldn't be more excited to collaborate with our Bay Area family on this release. But beyond our personal ties, we truly believe this record is something special.

DJ and radio host on Radio Z 95.8 Nuernberg/Germany (Radioshows “Limbo Rhythm” and “Headz”).

As DJ he has performed since 1992 in the Franconian surroundings, however, also in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria… Moreover he was booked for events such as the IFA International Radio Exhibition Berlin and the biggest European Youth Fair “YOU”, also in Berlin.
Dr.Best himself considers his roots in the Hip Hop Sound of the early 80’s to the mid 90’s, but he also dealt with other styles such as Funk, Soul, Acid Jazz, Trip Hop, Big Beat, House, Drum & Bass and Breakbeat. Over a couple of years he has been known in the German Clubscene as a Breakbeat-DJ, then in 2006, however, his style started to mutate… Styles such as Funk, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, Reggae, Latin, Afrobeat and Disco got mixed with his Breakbeat Sound and created a new mixture which cannot be easily tagged any more.

Biography:

Ilya Santana is a Spanish electronic artist from Las Palmas, on the island of Gran Canaria. He has developed a devoted fanbase over the years and is well known for his original fusion of electronic music and other electronic subgenres. The disco, house, and Synthwave influences of Santana's music combine to create a diverse, upbeat sound.

Santana is a skilled producer who has a talent for creating groovy and soulful music. Rich soundscapes, complex rhythms, and soaring melodies that take the listener to another place are characteristics of his music. Each track on a Santana album is said to constitute a new chapter in a trip through time and space.

Ilya Santana has made a name for himself as one of the most interesting and energetic artists in the business thanks to his distinctive sound and avant-garde approach to electronic music. The ability of electronic music to move listeners and foster a sense of belonging and connection is demonstrated by his songs. If you enjoy disco, house, or funk music, Santana's music will get you up and moving.
