Justin Cudmore is the latest in the line of midwesterners to emerge from the Brooklyn music scene, hailing originally from Illinois. And you can hear it in his music, that mesmerizing midwestern groove and deep heady thoughtfulness. He debuted on Honey Soundsystem Records, has released on The BunkerNY and is member of Hot Mix, a DJ trio that also includes Mike Servito and Gunnar Haslam.

Thomas Neyens first left his mark on the dance scene under his alias Kiani & His Legion, with two releases on Red D's We Play House Recordings in 2013 and more recently on Something Happening Somewhere, quickly demonstrating his accomplished production flair. This led the Belgian establishing his own imprint, Tanzbar Records, where he dropped two EPs under his Far Out Radio Systems moniker – bringing a more 'dancefloor focused' sound. Now after a two year hiatus, Neyens returns to his Far Out Systems alias for this EP, his first offering for a label outside of Tanzbar Records.

'Spheres' kicks off the release, with its soft bassline perfectly complimenting the hazy synths, syncopated drums and the mesmerising nuances from the hang drum that feature later in the track. The slow burning style continues on 'Jane Goodall', with the track's atmospheric textures gradually overpowered by a steady selection of drums, percussion and off-kilter effects. 'Vaquita' sees Far Out Radio Systems up the tempo whilst still sonically retaining the melancholic, hypnotic sound of the EP, as the snare-led rhythm gradually gains in momentum over its seven minute duration. Closing this excellent four track EP is 'On A Quest', a pulsating number that combines soaring, ethereal synths with a club ready groove that is perfect for the shadowy dancefloors the Belgian DJ/producer performs to.

‘Arrival’ is a beautiful piece of minimalism that conjures an superlunary vibe out of the bare essentials: moonlit ambience, vaporous reverb and faintly jazzy chords, all underpinned by a beat that’s effortlessly hypnotic. Subtle, but stunningly effective.

Tresor Records marks its 250th release with a very special project indeed. Continuing to forge ahead whilst remaining ever mindful of its legacy, Tresor proudly presents Infiniti - The Remixes: a trilogy of classic cuts and new reworks from one of its original Detroit linchpins Juan Atkins.

Dubbed as his “pure techno” project, Atkins produced two full-length albums under the Infiniti moniker—The Infiniti Collection, released by Tresor in 1996, and Skynet two years later. 16 years on and they are as relevant today as they were pioneering then, brought further up-to-date here with a series of fresh takes from some of techno’s pioneering and esteemed figures: Thomas Fehlmann, TV Victor, Function, Redshape, Sleeparchive and the re-release of dubtechno vanguard Moritz Von Oswald's remix of "Think Quick", originally released in '94 on Metroplex.

Part One - The Orb’s Thomas Fehlmann picked two tracks, one in each album, to form a very special combo-mix. The shimmering “Walking On Water” and "Raindrops" come together in a beautiful old-school sounding version. Tresor Records ambient stalwart TV Victor plies his vision to present a hypnotic take on the gently elevating “Thought Process”. 

Part Two picks up the pace, heading further down the timeline with “Flash Food”—originally released in 1995 as part of one of the label’s famous annual compilations, re-edited by Sandwell District’s Function. Skynet’s punchy classic on the flip, “Skyway” rounds off the EP with a killer old-school remix by techno’s masked crusader Redshape.

Part Three concludes with a remix package of The Infiniti Collection’s brooding slow-burner “Think Quick”, backed with an offering from one of Berlin’s revered electronic practitioners Sleeparchive and the re-release of Moritz Von Oswald's remix, initially released on Metroplex in 1994 - a rarity.

!K7 announce new DJ-Kicks curated by DJ Seinfeld The next instalment of the series is set for release on CD, LP and digital on 13th July, 2018.

The first chapter of Armand Jakobsson’s musical career has been nothing short of remarkable. After establishing himself with rough but emotive house as Rimbaudian and jungle as Birds of Sweden, he unveiled his DJ Seinfeld alias to the world, first with underground hit single ‘U’, then with his Time Spent Away From U album on Lobster Fury in November 2017. It was a post break-up love letter to the dance floor with heart-on-sleeve emotions colouring the dusty and analogue house grooves. Acclaim came in from far and wide, with everyone from Rolling Stone to Pitchfork fawning over its heart swelling nostalgia and melancholic immediacy.

Since then, Jakobsson feels “everything around me changed beyond recognition, people and places I relied on for stability and comfort were no longer the same,” and so it has been a time in which he has had to find himself once again. Musically that means diversifying, and as such the Swede has veered into jungle, breaks and electro, as well as plenty of rough edged house, and continues to serve up electrifying DJ sets across the world.

Jakobsson approached his DJ-kicks with the intention of representing all the things that made him fall in love with dance music more than a decade ago, as well as showing some of the progression that has occurred in that time and “reflecting the simultaneous fear of leaving something safe behind as well as the excitement of venturing into unknown territories, musically and emotionally.” In order to make it as personal as possible, he called upon the many talented people around him making music. They returned with an enthusiasm that reminded Jakobsson of his own early passion, and in turn invigorated him and the whole process of assembling the mix. It was finally recorded at Inkonst club in Malmo because, recently back from years in Barcelona, he has not yet set up a studio in his hometown.

The mix opens with a pensive ambient piece that was written around the time of the album. “Having it be the first track was kind of a nice way to sign off from the album, but also to connect the story from that part of my life to this one,” says Jakobsson. From there, smooth deep house from Andras, Fantastic Man and Rudolf C slowly awakens your dancing spirits, Jakobsson assumes his Rimbaudian alias for some trippy slickness, and the exclusives come thick and fast from the likes of Australians Roza Terenzi and Sleep D. Next to well established artists like FaltyDL and Project Pablo are lesser known names like Chela Una and Mor Elian, with two more of Seinfeld’s own tracks taking the aliases in new directions but helping to tie the mix together.

Musically things remain colourful, with slippery electro grooves, more cosmic synth work and dusty broken beats all ensuring a steady dance floor pulse remains but never at the expense of a real sense of charm and character. This is a mix that glides effortlessly from start to finish; from rushing highs to dark and driving lows, with a gamut of emotions and standout tracks all seamlessly fused into one storytelling whole.

DJ Seinfeld’s DJ-kicks is not only a testament of his characterful DJ skills, but also a complete artistic statement that showcases his unique vision of dance music.

James Welsh continues his run of exemplary club singles on Phantasy with another powerful and uncompromising two-track release, Sitting/Rubber Dog. The record follows D974, which earned support from DJs including Laurent Garnier, Charlotte de Witte and Luke Slater.

Sitting enforces precision rhythm with a rolling, dystopian bass line alongside a hypnotic and memorable vocal sample. As the tension increases, the track’s clinical feel is unexpectedly flipped on its own head, blossoming into an intoxicating and emotive synth melody.

Meanwhile, Rubber Dog stays true to its absurdist title, as Welsh dials his analogue assistance to a head-spinning maximum, pulping out an unwieldy jam that blends industrial and electro influences to riveting and darkly psychedelic effect.
