“Welcome to 24 hours with an alien. My name’s Katya, I’m a London based DJ originally from Russia. The idea behind the takeover is that I’m going to be taking you on a day in my UFO, to many different planets each exploring a different genre. We’ll be starting somewhere deep under the Drexciyan sea with an electro set courtesy of Gunfinger Food & Mixtress. We’ll gradually head to space for Dr Watson’s set and make it all the way to Tres-2b, the darkest planet in the universe, for eXpressO’s set. After that we’re gonna start heading back to Earth for sunrise, listening to Jake Walker’s set along the way. We’ll make it to London for a day of UK bass, Garage & Funky. Once we finish up in London, we’ll make our way back to space with Dr Baird, Seven Hills Records, Tañ & Rough. We go back to the dark planet for an industrial techno & electro finish. A day dedicated to all of my favourite genres by some of the finest selectors about - I hope you enjoy!!”

This week it is our absolute pleasure to welcome two of our favourite DJs onto the series. As you all know, in the past we haven’t normally featured B2Bs on our guest mix series. However, when @ell_murphy and @ohmydais , two of the UK’s most exciting DJs got in touch we thought we could make an exception!!! 

There’s no doubt that Team Woibey and OBFC have reigned supreme this year. With mixes out on HÖR, Lobster Theremin, Foundation FM, Balamii and Rinse, there’s no doubt that Ell & Daisy’s sublime selections have been fully celebrated this year. 

In their B2B GAB guest mix, Ell & Daisy blend their way gracefully through a range of leftfield breakbeat soundscapes across the first 30 mins, with brief techno and ukg excursions. Following an outrageous donk transition, the mix’s second half sees Ell & Daisy push the tempo with jungle and hardcore selections that will leave u begging for IDs. 

What stunned us most about this mix was Ell & Daisy’s ability to capture a musical conversation while maintaining the mix’s seamless transitions. If you want to catch the duo in action get urselves down to Materials 4th Birthday this Friday at Werkhaus where they’ll be shelling out alongside an absolutely stacked line up!

As the last couple in the "Selected Vinyls" series, I am focusing on the UKG-era - here of the alltime brilliant producer Steve Gurley. As the first volumes revolved around the beats and bass from El-B, he himself is earlier cited for "There were no influences in that scene for me at the time [around year 2000], only Steve Gurley", so on that note, the mixtape in front of you displays Steve Gurleys work inside a UK garage frame.
