Suite from "Symphonie Fantastique", mvt. V - The Witches' Sabbath

"Gille et Gillotin", an opéra-comique in one act with music by Ambroise Thomas (1811–1896), premiered in Paris on 22 April 1874. Written in 1859 and originally entitled "Gillotin et son père", the work lay dormant until the Opera-Comique mounted a production 15 years later - over Thomas's objections. It was a failure, but the brief yet evocative overture stirs our imaginations immediately; fifes and drum intone a simple military theme which is eventually taken up by the full orchestra in masterful orchestration, replete with fanfares. World premiere recording. This orchestral realization was created using Finale 27 and NotePerformer 5.
