Internet obsession, rave-nostalgia & intense anxiety surrounding death. A sense of purpose was dwindling from euphoric moments. Extended eye contact till you can feel it in your stomach, to be everlasting, to look up to the sky & say: “This feels Like Heaven”.

Grasps_ develops their signature sound, using Heaven as an ode to the meaningful connections forged through their work. The Eora (Sydney) based artist unpacks and reflects on the experiences of urban dread and trepidation, intimacy and desolation, overtly depicted through a lens of melancholia.

"Highly regarded around these ways for introducing the likes of Ronce on his Dawn Records label - with whom he collaborated on the ‘Aquatics’ LP - and a string of ace compilation cuts, visual artist-turned-producer Hajj renders his most ephemeral yet affective conception of a negative ecstasy in ‘Drag Me Into the Void’. The three tracks reprise the billowing introspection of his 2020 debut for Brothers From Different Mothers , ‘Dédicace À Personne’ with a subtly refined palette and sound design, dematerialising traces elements of late ‘90s trance and up-to-the-second trap into thee gauziest, gently buoyant ambient space.

The trio of tax slot neatly into YOUTH's cross section of contemporary bedroom/living room/imaginary club space with a breezy mutability. ‘Drag Me Into the Void’ appears in subtly alternate mixes, bathing a trance siren vocal refrain in anaesthetising reverb and vapourized traces of emo-rap drums with a sublime sense of deferred gratification on the original, while nipping/tucking to more elusive allure in the ‘Euphoria’s death edit’. In the middle ‘Reverse Catharsis’ augments the syrupy ambient rap aesthetic with more pronounced woodblock percussion hinting at Burial hitting the downstroke, and lit up with killer, trancey hyper-blooz synth plucks. "

A chance meeting in Bucharest two summers ago saw Ratty Slay Johnson and Soopie reunite. It has been a much discussed topic amongst art and music circles as to how and why Rat Section abruptly fell into obscurity in the late 90s and up to this point their sudden disappearance remains a mystery.

Their sparse back catalogue seems inaccessible now. A dedicated collecting community known as ‘Club Rodentia’ sought to preserve their tape and vinyl output, amassing releases from Ratty Slay Johnnie’s sophomore release ‘Tails from Estonia’ to Soopi and Slay John’s last known excursion ‘Tashkent Knights’.

An unfortunate occurrence led to the destruction of this archive in 2005. Member of Club Rodentia Carlos Moscato was quoted in an article of NME magazine saying “In the dark of night, a fire emerged, I was responsible at the time for the care of the archive, as standard Rodentia protocol we would move the collection every 3 months, for both preservation and for local access to Rat Sections catalogue. On the final night of my duty I heard footsteps, a crash, and before my eyes years of hard work erupted in flames. Since this incident I haven’t found even a crumb of Rat Sections body of work and people say we will never see them again." Carlos Moscato was correct, until now.

Rat Section have been active for the last two years with appearances in London, Berlin, Malmö, Melbourne, Paris and Los Angeles, it looks like we are finally going to hear Rat Section again. They have found a home for their debut album on Halcyon Veil.

Rat Section are back in the spotlight.

“Emellay” is the second EP released by Upstate NY-based artist music lovers anonymous (MLA). The project can be seen as a sort of sequel to his first EP, “Wherever Chance Leads Me, I Will Go As A Friend,” released on formforum earlier this year. There are familiar sounds: humble field recordings, string-like textures, with an increased emphasis on controlled discord. Samples from important periods in his life are re-contextualized into something individualized: an interpretive dance between the weight of life and the bliss of insignificance. A pseudo-self titled project, “Emellay” functions as an unfinished self-portrait. Or maybe rather, a blind contour. These tracks were created without an end—with closed eyes—like a story being told as it is written...a story taking place in a bedroom, at a laptop, with a MIDI controller. It is an ode to an undeveloped identity, leaving melodic artifacts in its wake.

This is music for headphones.

Voice from the Forest... A Legend Becomes a Song
In the mountains of Urkiola, where the mist coils like a serpent among the oaks, the villagers spoke of a voice that sang at dawn. It was not human, they said, nor animal. It was something older than language, deeper than echo: a melody that seemed to spring from the very heart of the forest.
Legend tells that centuries ago, a young woman named Maialen lived in a hut hidden among the trees. She had the gift of music, and every night she sang for the spirits of the forest: the lamiak of the river, the galtzagorri of the moss, the dragons sleeping beneath the earth. Her voice wove peace between beings seen and unseen.
But one day, men came with axes and fire. They wanted to open paths, raise towers, tame the mountain. Maialen sang to stop them, but her song was drowned out by the noise. She disappeared among the roots, and ever since, her voice has been trapped in the forest.
They say that when the wind blows from the north and the moon is full, you can hear its song. Not with your ears, but with your soul. Whoever hears it and remembers it will be able to turn it into a song. Thus was born the zortziko of Maialen, a melody passed down from generation to generation, without a score, without fixed lyrics, only emotion.
A wandering musician, Aitor, heard it one night while camping near the beech forest. The melody possessed him, and upon returning to the village, he played it on his txalaparta and trikitixa. People cried, laughed, and danced. The song had no name, but everyone knew it was "the voice that comes from the forest."
