@barnemax is a French artist currently based in Leipzig. His musical identity is shaped around downtempo music, with a delicate combination of vivid and deep kicks, and mystical, dark and experimental textures around. The influence around his music is quite wide: deep and tribal techno, bass music, with even some trip hop elements on top of that.

He has featured with many great podcast channels such as @monochromeasso or @anodynicfrequencies.

Submarine volcanoes are underwater vents or fissures in the Earth's surface from which magma can erupt. Many submarine volcanoes are located near areas of tectonic plate formation, known as mid-ocean ridges. The volcanoes at mid-ocean ridges alone are estimated to account for 75% of the magma output on Earth. 
Even though most submarine volcanoes do not produce the spectacular eruption events of some of their land counterparts, undersea volcanic activity is a constant process that shapes the features of the ocean. When magma reaches the level of the seafloor, it meets cold ocean water and quickly cools to form basaltic rock, often termed “pillow lava” due to its rounded shape. This pillow lava, along with slower-cooling magma beneath it, forms the vast majority of oceanic crust.
There are two types of sounds generated by submarine eruptions: One created by the slow release and bursting of large lava bubbles, while the other one is created by quick explosions of gas bubbles. Using this method to be able to distinguish the two can help measure the related affects on marine animals and ecosystems, the volume and composition of the lava flow can also be estimated and built into a model to extrapolate potential effects.
Scientists have been able to connect sounds to sights in both types of eruptions. In 2009, a video camera and a hydrophone were floating 1,200 meters below sea level in the Pacific Ocean near Samoa, watching and listening as the West Mata Volcano erupted in several ways. Putting video and audio together let researchers learn the sounds made by slow lava bursting and the different noises made by hundreds of gas bubbles.

Submarine volcanoes may also have a big impact in climat change and global warming : with ice melting, pressure of these volcanoes drops and eruptions increase. These eruptions release CO2, which further increases the warming and melting of the ice, in a feedback loop that precipitates the planet into a warm era.

It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal neoliberalist mould, we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Regardless of one’s point of reference, we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on.

This month we have invited @jinsynth to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero-patriarchal systems of oppression.

Jin is a DJ and synthesizer performer who mixes elements of ambient and techno. Her performances focus on creating artistic abstraction through the use of experimental sounds and analogue noises, to provide audiences with a deeper perception of music.
