To celebrate the end of summer we looked for something special for the podcast. After searching high and low, we found a woman hiding in Odessa, Ukraine that plays dub-techno. We thought this was perfect for the Monument, to give everyone some good feelings and proper vibes. 

Olesia Elfa(@dj_elfa) is the talented dj from Odessa, Ukraine. Her musical career started in Moscow 2009. Experimenting with sounds soon she came to the various shades of techno music. Elfa is well known for her good sense of music and excellent musical taste. Now she is making moves in her own production of experimental, ambient, techno and dub techno music.

We asked for a Q&A, but she simply replied that she doesn't answer questions, that here music does the speaking.... Oh well :)

Worst Case aka Tony Casanova & Joshua Jesse's “Rocket” EP comes at us with two hard hitting originals and three reworks anchoring on the talents of some of the finest producers around at the moment.

“Rocket” opens up swiftly with an effervescent bustle, as the groove is slowly built up through ascending synth leads. The ear catching leit-motif though is an insurgent guitar sample, reminiscent of 70s power solos. Despite the overall oldschool flavour of the track, we’re quickly reintroduced to present day soundscapes, as we reach its peak point. Surprisingly enough, the tension is smoothly resolved and the original dynamic is reverted.

Centered on a setup of layered vocals, “General Opinion” offers an upbeat groove from the get go, bolstered by a carefully crafted array of ascending whizzes, tribal roars and clattering bells. Distant cut-outs of the vocals create a spacious and relaxed outro, unwinding to a full stop.

US sound traveler Clint Steward revamps “Rocket”, building up anticipation through percussive slabs. Promptly triggered cavernous bass snippets enthrall and intrigue, as the ambiance morphs into that of an otherwordly sonic journey.

Niko Schwind injects his trademark oomph, giving “Rocket” some extra boost. Balancing sharp chops with subversive synth detonations, the piece gains even more fire to fuel the dancefloor.
From the other side of the globe, Aussie Murat Kilic reshapes the audio storyline in “General Opinion” to a progressive, uplifting affair peppered with sunken ringers. Still playing upon a vocal sample from the original cut, the track shows off a jagged edge, displaying a deeper and darker version rendition of the latter.

Worst Case – Rocket [Full Track]

The music in this mix represents what I like to listen to when hanging out with just a few friends after a long night out. Sounds that I prefer as a soundtrack to my mindless spaced-out conversations on a couch rather than tracks designed to work a crowd on a dance floor...loopy, spacey, trippy, stripped, strangely structured, quirky, and subdued.

I was actually glad that my friends at Electronic Groove (@egroove) asked me to do an afterhours-specific mix rather than a regular anything-goes mix. My last few mixes left me feeling like I was getting a little too "comfortable." I started getting self-conscious that I was getting predictable on both the types of songs I would choose and the way I would mix them together. I started getting bored of myself. That being said, I found this mix to be satisfying to put together. Hope you dig.

Also, since these mix posts tend to reach a wide audience, I'd like to use this platform to show my solidarity as a straight ally with the LGBTQ community, especially to those who feel isolated or alone right now. At a personal level, all shootings are terrible, but this Orlando massacre has emotionally hit me the hardest in the last few years.

I've been told that the best immediate ways to show support right now are by:
 - Giving blood, if you're straight. Gay men are not allowed to give blood

Der Münchner Alex hatte ein lange Zeit meine Lieblingspodcast Reihe Schatzkiste gehostet. Über ihn bin ich zu so einige Künstlern gekommen, die ich sonst nicht so schnell oder überhaupt nicht gefunden hätte. Nachdem er sich von soundcloud verabschiedet hatte, sind wir aber dann doch noch in Kontakt geblieben. Bei unserem letzten Telefonat hab ich mal so gefragt … “wie siehts aus, magst mal einen Podcast für mich Machen?” und schwubs am nächsten Tag hatte ich dieses experimentell Dub-Techno Set im Posteingang liegen. 

Seit ca. 20 Jahren sammelt Alex nun schon das schwarze Gold und hat sein Mixing mehr als perfektioniert. Danke Alex für dieses besondere Set und schön das uns die Musik zusammegeführt hat.

Mir ist BADRE 2015 durch sein “deep orient” Set aufgefallen,  genau durch diese verschiedenen gewürzartigen Geschmäcker. Dazwischen findet man dann aber auch einfach mal wieder ein Detroid Set in seiner Set-Sammlung … Abwechslung ist bei BADRE immer garantiert. 

BADRE vielen Dank für diese wunderbaren 1,5 Stunden und meinen lieben Zuhörern wünsche ich nun viel Spaß bei diesem Ohrenschmaus.
