The "Bamboo Ceiling" is a term coined by author Jane Hyun in 2005, describing the barriers faced by many Asian-Americans in the professional arena, such as stereotypes and racism. The term might originate in the US, but I believe it is a worldwide phenomenon - one that I also experienced and felt myself.

Asians are not the only ones who struggle with being measured by different standards and with the need to "work extra hard" to be taken serious - Many different communities are marginalized that way. 

Let's break the cycle through understanding & representation, no matter if it's a “glass ceiling”, “concrete ceiling”, “bamboo ceiling” or any other ceiling - Let's be inclusive!

Self Quarantine

I’m a Chinese Person born and raised in Germany, and that meant I would feel often like a foreigner no matter where I am, based on how I look like or how I speak and behave, and this song is my story.

This one is for those who feel home in more than one culture, for those who have been called “exotic” or asked “where are you REALLY from?”, and for those who are just perceived as “different”. 

Being different is not a weakness, it’s a superpower - let’s embrace it.
