Beautiful melody and strong production. (bEaToRgAnIc)  Respect!

“My Way” is one of the most iconic reflective ballads of the 20th century. The melody comes from the French song Comme d’habitude (1967), composed by Jacques Revaux with lyrics by Claude François and Gilles Thibaut. In 1968, Paul Anka wrote completely new English lyrics, creating “My Way,” which became world‑famous through Frank Sinatra’s 1969 recording. The song is about looking back on one’s life with a mixture of pride, acceptance, and calm defiance.

This recording is part of my Piano playlist, where well‑known songs from the mid‑1900s are reimagined as intimate solo‑piano pieces. Instead of big orchestral arrangements and powerful vocals, everything is reduced to melody, harmony, and silence around the notes—music for late evenings, reflection, or focused work.

In my interpretation of “My Way,” I emphasize its quiet strength: less about grand gestures and more about inner resolution.

1.) Melody & phrasing
The melody is treated almost like a spoken confession—clear, direct, and unhurried. I use gentle rubato, letting certain notes and phrase endings linger, as if the “narrator” were pausing to remember specific moments in a long life. Climactic points are played with more volume and weight, while the verses remain more intimate, like a private story told to a close friend.

2.) Harmony & piano texture
Harmonically, I stay close to the classic version while adding subtle color through extended chords (7ths, 9ths) and inner voices that move quietly inside the harmony. The left hand supports with broad, sustained chords and occasional broken patterns that hint at an orchestra in the distance, without becoming too dense. The right hand carries the tune as if it were a singer—sometimes very simple, at other times with small ornamental notes that recall vocal inflections. The piano sound is warm and close, as if played in a quiet hall or an empty bar at the end of the night.

3.) Mood & use
This version aims for a mood of dignity, nostalgia, and calm acceptance. It works well as background music for reading, writing, or late‑night thinking, but also supports more emotional, focused listening if you follow the dynamic build‑ups and harmonic turns. Within the context of the playlist, it connects the chanson tradition of the 1960s with the English‑language ballad style and a stripped‑down, modern solo‑piano aesthetic.

Re-embracing hope in present and past science fiction.

 A heavy dub of Nachtmusik. Admittedly the name 'New Nubia Space Station' is a bit too conceptually obvious and pretentious, but it kind of stuck. Working title was 'ambient step dub', next idea was 'Octavia Butler', name of the sci-fi novel author Octavia Butler, which in turn almost noone would understand who or what it refers to. (she is often named as the inventor of afrofuturism). 

The new name is inspired by two contemperary novels by Omar Epps & Clarence A. Haynes. 'Nubia - The Reckoning' and the follow up 'Nubia - The Awakening'. Definitely more down to earth than the 'Black Panther' franchise. Dystopic, yet entertaining and hopeful.

As the leaves fall and the evenings grow quiet, I Left My Shadow brings a sense of bittersweet calm. This lofi chillhop beat, crafted in collaboration with the brilliant Quicknap, captures that feeling of walking away from something — or someone — and leaving a part of yourself behind.

Soft percussion, faded chords, and textured atmosphere all melt together into a track that feels like an autumn evening wrapped in headphones.
