It is very easy to impose from the top but rarely do the results last for long.  Strength comes when opponents work together; when they come to appreciate the interdependent nature of their relationship.  The world is in a strange place at the moment, it seems like a script is being followed.  Are we all merely players?  What do you think?

26 Sep 26 Ground of Becoming

Today’s pitch-class set, 9-12, sounds very dense; there are only three tones missing from the cluster.  If reality is a manifestation of all frequencies, is it our role to find a way of resonating with it?  December will contain some 12 note clusters which could sound quite complex, somehow I’ve got to find a way of highlighting the abundant beauty of the sounds.  What do you think?

Phase Tech-Continuum is an immersive ambient drone soundscape for electric mountain dulcimer, built around a slowly repeating A Mixolydian chord progression.  A reverberant  chord cloud gradually moves from lower to higher registers, creating subtle changes in brightness and atmosphere - perhaps creating a gentle sense of expansion and unfolding.  Sparse and softened electric dulcimer notes drift through the harmonic landscape, their natural plucked edges dissolving into long, spacious reverberation. Sustained sound provided by long tones and overlapping notes allow the listener to settle into the music without constantly anticipating the next sound event.

The music is slow, gently evolving, and spacious.  There is no particular destination or dramatic resolution-only an invitation to inhabit the sound as it continues to unfold.  This song provides a space for deep listening, contemplation, resting, and simply being.

Phase Tech-Continuum is the companion piece to Phase Tech-Mountainward, emerging from the same exploration of repetition, register, and slowly changing musical textures.

Steve Reich Tripping Balls

Sillage, named after the French word for the lingering trail of a fragrance, is a meditation on the invisible traces left by people, places, works of art, and the events that shape both our individual and collective memory. Built around slowly evolving harmonies on an analog synthesizer, inspired by the contemplative character of early sacred music and slow Baroque harmony, the piece invites quiet reflection. It also serves as the Intro to the upcoming album, preparing the listener to the next piece, Pleiades.

I create slow, atmospheric sound pieces that invite deep listening and stillness.  Using an electric mountain dulcimer, flutes, whistles, and gentle keyboard textures, I create quiet, immersive pieces for rest and reflection.

I started composing daily pieces and posting them onto SoundCloud at the beginning of 2013.  By posting daily I am tweaking, experimenting and developing a thought, idea or event in time.  I am endeavouring to show that there is no limit to that creative spark that lies within each of us.  So much of what we do nowadays is about instant return, I am about evolution not revolution (although each month starts with a clean slate).  Join me on my journey to 10,000 (18 May 2040!!!)

I am a minimalist. There are no computers, other than a drag and drop from a digital 8-track. This music is not really made for phone speakers but they will do in some cases. I release the songs on SoundCloud as I record them. Once an album is done, I release the songs in album form on Bandcamp. The songs only get worse as you go.
